I'm using Norton 360 which overrides Windows Security. As a result, the options for Network & Firewall protection are grayed out. In Norton, I have allowed In/Out communications with the Magix program but Magix still does not communicate. Is Magix still going to Windows Security even though Windows Security is not active?

Hi Mike.

For that you would have to go to Settings \ Update & Security \ Windows Security \ Open Windows Security, and look at the individual parts of the Security at a glance area for yourself.

Normally adding an antivirus program in itself does not disable Windows Defender. It just becomes another layer.

Windows is now an operating system consisting of layers upon layers. It's worse than Android to gain access to certain parts.

That depends on whether Norton fully de-activated Defender, if it has not then the Firewall will still be active.

If you are running Windows 10 Professional - you can permanently disable it in the Group Policy Editor, however from experience the AV you are using will not want to relinquish control easily either.

As for internet connections. Have you set Windows defender to allow the program free internet access?

The ACV Intra-codec to allow importing and working with a 10bit file is what I am trying to do. I removed Norton 360 thinking it might be overlaying Windows Defender. I was, and then I was able to go to the WD screens you noted confirming the setting as you noted. The Public Network is shown as active. Pro 10 still does not communicate. Frustrating. I guess I also wonder why AVC is not an active part of the Magix program since that codec is popular these days. Note that activating specials editing features in Pro 10 works fine. ie inputting the serial numbers.

The problem is still probably something set within Win 10 as most of us here are not suffering that problem. It could have been something Norton changed that has not been changed back.

It may be an idea to visit the Norton users forums for clues.

The Codec is not owned by Magix who have to pay MPEG LA to include the encoding codec for each licence granted and for whatever reason charge separately for the codec to be used rather than add it to the cost price of the program. It could be that it is cheaper for Magix to do it on a case by case request rather than paying for an unlimited licence. The decoder is free as MPEG LA and its associated companies want its wide adoption.

If that is the case there would be no need for a licence fee, and it would be installed with the program.

VPX uses the decoder for import - the same goes for the DVCPro codec - both are fee based and cannot be used for exporting in those formats.
