Problem importing avi file into Movie Edit Pro 2016.

LBM11 wrote on 10/16/2016, 11:14 PM

I am losing my audio content when I import an avi file into Movie Edit Pro 2016. Video imports Ok, but audio is jacked! Audio conten is not totally obliterated, but hissing and hums are present with audio content. Native avi file plays OK using other programs.Tried changing video format during import, but that did not resolve problem. my PC is running Windows 10. Magix software is Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016, version 15.0.0.71 (UDP3). Hardware is desktop PC with 12G Ram.

Hi,

Normally AVI file need a Cinepak codec to work with MEP, you can convert you avi in mp4 movie or search for the right codec compatible with your Windows version. Since version 2016 AVI is not compatible with MEP

Hi

AVI is a container file format ie the there is no AVI codec.

A 'container' file format can contain any video and audio codec and if the required codecs are not on your computer then you cannot open the video files in MEP.

In your case the video codec is installed on your PC, however the audio codec is either not installed and an alternative is being tried and failing, or the audio parameters/format are not what is expected by the codec.

What is the source of the AVI file?

To find out what is inside the AV file use MediaInfo to analyse the AVI file, switch MediaInfo to Tree view and then Export the results as a text file.

Post the results here so we can see what is inside the AVI

Hi

What is the source of the video?

The audio sample rate of 32.0kHz in the video file has a non standard rate and this may be causing the issue.

Sample rates of  44.1kHz or 48kHz are suitable.

I suspect that to import this file correctly you need to have Quicktime installed, however there is an issue with Apple no longer supporting QT on Windows and there is a security vulnerability in the last Windows version which Apple will not fix.

Alternative to installing Quicktime is to run the video through a video converter, I use MovAvi, and convert to another format eg mpg or mp4 at the same resolution.

I do not think DVC Pro is a supported Format in MEP - only Video ProX. The 2 audio streams may have something to do with it.
