Problem with AVI export

I have never tried to export as an AVI but I am trying to and I keep getting an error:

"An error has occurred during export with an external video codec. Please check export settings (resolution, framerate, etc.) and make changes if necessary. If problems persist, it is recommended to restore default settings."

I have Windows XP and ME Pro 14 PLUS. I have activated all the additional functions (MPEG2 and 4) ... it still does not export. All I needed to do was lighten the video...it came out too dark and it is already an AVI. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

A suggestion alex..., Try a different codec.

I could reproduce your error by trying to export 1920 x 100 using Intel IYUV (whatever that is!) codec. On the AVI export window is an 'Advanced...' button which will bring up the video export settings. Assuming your size is OK eg 720 x 576 for PAL DVD, try some codecs other than the one currently highlighted.

It's sensible to first export a short section to check the quality rather than doing an entire project. There is always a balance between compression (to give small file sizes) and image quality. Some codecs are good for fast changing action but I find terrible for rendering smooth subtle color changes.

Carl

Thanks Carl...I will try that.

The whole thing is kinda wonky though I am trying to export a 2 hour AVI that I only brightened because it was too dark and it is 640 x 264 and it was originally an AVI!!

I also tried to export it as a MPEG-2 and it went the whole way through and when I played it...it was all black and completely silent. I don't know what is going on. It's driving me crazy. It also took 2 hours to export as the MPEG.

I will now try it as Microsoft Video 1 and see what happens. I did not know this was going to be such a mission.
