coryamy wrote on 2/12/2014, 8:37 AM

The program apparently burns the video to the cd but i can not play the cd back on niether my laptop or dvd player. Not sure if i am burning in the right format. (I have right click on the cd to open it after its done burning and on all 3 times there was nothing there) I am using an Toshiba i5 laptop with windows 7. Someone please help.

Unfotunately there are a number of possiblities why the burn is failing!  However, to help us fellow-users to help you we need you to post a lot more detail about exactly what you are doing.

So, step by step, detail exactly what you did, including things like format of the imported files, format you are exporting to (you mention CD but I wonder whether you mean DVD?) etc., etc.  And which version of MEP are you actually using?

The files are imported as a wmv file and yes emmrecs the export format is DVD. Has far as the MEP im not sure. Is there suppose to be a certain MEP format that I need to choose. I pretty much loaded Movie Edit Pro 2014 on my Computer. Cut a home video and saved it as an WMV and hit the burn button and chose DVD. Im a very inexperienced person when it comes to movie editing. So if anyone can tell me what all the formats to just make a simple DVD that plays either on my computer or DVD player it would be greatly appreciated

Hi.  Thank you for your reply; even that limited information is helpful and we all started the learning curve at some time!  So don't be embarrased at your lack of  expertise!

You say your files are wmv format.  Is this how you "started" with them or are they the ones you exported (you talk about saving as wmv)?  Before giving you any more suggestions and because I have to leave my computer now, can you let us know the format of those files as they were before you started ANY editing.

Hopefully, I'll be able later, with this additional info from you, to help you acheive the desired DVD!

ok....I orginally started with VHS taped copied the video to a cd using a VHS/DVD burning machine that you would purchase at an electronics store. I found out that the format the videos were in after this process would not work. So i found Win X DVD ripper online. Installed that on my computer and ripped  the DVD to WMV format. Then I imported that WMV file into Movie Edit pro 2014

OK.  Thank you for this additional info.

I see no reason why the original wmv files should not work in MEP but given their somewhat "unusual" provenance nothing is guaranteed!  However, I presume these files do play normally in MEP?

If so, once you have edited them to suit what you want, chose "Save Project as ..." from the File menu.  Give the project any name you wish.  The file extension will then be .mvp but this file simply contains ALL the instructions that MEP needs to create the finished video file.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO (RE-)SAVE YOUR FILES/PROJECT AS .wmv.  This is most important because I think, from reading your previous posts, you are trying to burn the disc from these "edited" wmv files.  (Since wmv is a compressed format, when you resave those files as wmv you are recompressing them, = reducing quality.)

Then open the burn screen in MEP, (still with your original mvp project on the timeline) choose DVD as the output format - if you don't already have "Chapter Points" created on the timeline you'll be offered various options for the creation of one or more, just make a choice (depending on your actual content one "at the start" could be entirely sufficient) - and allow MEP to create the DVD.

Do post back and let us now whether you are now successful in creating the disk; if you're not we can think further about where the problem may arise.

One further thought: your original post says there was "nothing there" on the previously created DVDs.  If that is literally true - there is absolutely no sign that the recordable surface of the disc has changed in any way - are you sure your DVD burner is actually working properly and can burn usable discs?

I am also having this issue and with the explanation given I hope I can sort it out. I have one question, however. Is saving the project necessary for burning or can I just burn what is on the timeline without saving it ?

It's not necessary - you can always do anything without saving! - but it's better to do so for the usual reason: if something goes wrong while preparing and processing the burn, then you can quickly recover your last saved status.

Have you also set up Auto Save under File -> Settings -> Program... to create automatic backups?

@joserobles1941

I see you've just posted another question today.

Feedback on previous ones, such as this, is always appreciated.

I use movie edit pro plus to burn and i only burn 1 DVD AT A TIME and it go back to mix again, is it possible to burn more that one disc?

emmrecs wrote on 6/10/2017, 6:51 AM

@pastornezekiel

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

First, you will see I have removed one of your posts since it was essentially a duplicate of the other. I hope you don't mind but it helps to keep the forums "tidy".

Possibly the easiest way to be able to burn more than one DVD at a time is either, once you have completed the first disc, use it as the master from which to make copies, or, and this is my preferred method, instead of burning the project to disc, use the "Image Recorder" option on the burn screen to create an .iso file which can then be re-used as many times as you wish to burn additional DVD copies, using something like the free ImgBurn.

If you need more information or details, please post back. Whatever, do let us know how you get on.
