Problems with VPX9 upgrade

Audrey2 wrote on 1/20/2018, 3:32 AM
Hi, having problems updating VPX8 Version 15.03.3.154 to VPX9. Computer is a Dell T5500 Intel Quad core ,4g memory, using Windows 7 Professional (which has not been updated for 11months because it won't !?) It is only connected to net when it has to be and is used only for video editing. Installed are licenced Magix programs :- Magix Audio & Music Lab 2016 21.0.38 (DP3) Magix Music Maker Movie Score 21.0.50 Magix Video Pro X7 14.0.96 (UDPP3) Magix Video Pro X 15.0.3.154 (UDP3) I downloaded the upgrade from the "Help" menu. The first 3 attemps achieved nothing, 4th. attemp appeared to download 309mb but then got a "document not found" message or similiar. Next day tried again, got message "major program update" - "update now" only option - "Program Update" yes - "Download Update - yes , waited for download to complete 309mb - "Ready for Install" selected "Install when program closed" closed program, before closing "Load Existing Project - Create New etc" cancel, closed news centre add , Program Closed. Then " Prep for Install" "Start Install" This was followed by the following Magix VPX Message " MAGIX Video Pro X is already started on this computer from user ' ' If you continue, several program functions ( e.g. playback of media files, burning CD's DVDs may be limited, and problems may result etc. Continue anyway? " selected No Rebooted computer , loaded Magix VPX8 and went through the above again , it downloaded the upgrade again, closed program, got "Prep for Install" then got :- "Welcome to the Setup Program for MAGIX VPX Upgrade Please close all running programs etc Please note: Pluging on storage media can only be installed with the respectively purchased program version. These plugins cannot be installed after update." I chose "Cancel" to end installation Where do I go from here ? do I install supplied add ons to VPX8 then update to VPX9 or what? note VPX8 already has a version of proDAD Mercalli V4 installed, is the one with VPX9 the same or a later version ?. Please note I am by no means that knowledgeable when it comes to this. I look forward to any advice. REPLY to COMMENTS 21-08-2108 Hi all and thanks for the replies , after reading the all replies and as the last Windows update was April 2016 , I had another attempt at installing the update continuing past the point where I cancelled last attempt. All appeared to go ok , edited some video this afternoon all appeared ok except I do not have a newblue add on and Mercalli V4 that was installed on the earlier version. I have downloaded the mercalli V4 and the 2 Newblue Essentials supplied with the upgrade but unsure on how to install them, went to "Help' and Install extra content but could not locate the programs which are now located in the "Downloads" directory. More info on the computer :- Dell Precision T5500-1 , 2 Intel Xeon processors @ 2.93 Ghz , 4GB of Ram , Drive or drives do not know brand but Raid0 P2 of 3 144Gb 4.7Gb free , Raid0 P3 of 3 1.67Tb 1.45Tb free. , OS- Windows 7 Ultimate . Used VXP7 & 8 on it with no problems , only the operator , really do not want to go to Windows 10. Again Thanks

Hi.

Windows 7 Professional (which has not been updated for 11 months because it won't !?)

I almost stopped reading when I read that statement. The fact that it won't update suggests something quite seriously wrong with your installation of Win 7. I have to say I think you need to resolve exactly what is causing the failure to update the OS long before you consider updating ANY program. IMO, if you attempt program updates without first resolving your OS problems you may well be compounding the difficulties when using your computer.

I'm very reluctant to suggest any possible solution to the specific one you raise, the failure to update VPX, since my experience is that OS problems need to be resolved first! (I once tried to update a program when I knew the installed OS was not working properly; the update effectively exaggerated the problem and I finally had to admit that and wipe my system drive, then completely reinstall the operating system and all programs from scratch.)

You will have a healthier computer if you update the OS to Win 10. When I was having my problems with VPX, I was first reluctant to upgrade my OS, (and I already was using Win 10). Now I am really glad I did. Get all your data files backed up, in order, then do a complete reset of Win 10.

I think Greg (gmlotkow) is entirely correct that you do need, ultimately, to update to Win 10.

However, to be clear, this will need to be a clean install on an otherwise wiped drive, having previously backed up all your data files. To attempt an upgrade to Win 10 from an already-corrupt Win 7 is to invite very big problems, I fear!

@Audrey2

I assume this is the Dell T5500 workstation which has 2 quad core Xeon processors.

We need the full spec of the computer, including: No of processors and model number, installed graphic card(s) make and model, hard drive(s) size and free space.

There may be other potential issues depending on the installed hardware, in particular it may not update to Windows 10 due to hardware incompatibility.

. . . . has not been updated for 11months because it won't !? . . . .

It won't update because there are no updates unless you are on extended support. Windows 7 mainstream support ended January 13, 2015 and no further updates are available, there was a roll up update issued April 2016, however this was a convenience update which combined previous updates that were available before end of support, extended support ends Jan 2020 and is not available for consumers.
