Program Freezes When Uploading Video

wallboy wrote on 3/14/2018, 4:06 PM

I am running Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium - Version 15.0.0.114 which has been working fine.

I have just purchased a new camera but every time I upload, drag and drop or click the play button before adding it to the time line, the program freezes and I need to hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete to force close the program.

The video is an MP4 file taken on ThiEYE T5e

I also have MP4 files taken on Gropro Hero 3 and Gitup Git 2 which work fine.

Hi.

It would be helpful to know a little about your computer (OS, RAM, HDD, Graphics card, if discrete, etc., etc.) but I'm going to guess that the video files from your new camera require a specific codec which your computer and MEP do not have. Hence, MEP cannot play it.

So: what is the make and model of this new camera? Does it come with its own software to allow its files to be successfully imported to other programs? Do you have any other video player software, perhaps Windows Media Player or VLC, and if so, can any of them play your file?

In order to establish exactly what type of video file you have, ("mp4" is a container format, the actual contents can vary considerably) please find, download and install the free MediaInfo utility, point it to your file and copy and past the results of the Tree view to a post here.

One other thing you might try; if you can find, download and install the free GSpot utility (it's not actually been updated for some considerable time but is still very useful) and point it to your video file, it will show you whether you have any codec(s) on your computer which will allow the playing of your file.

The camera is ThiEYE T5e which doesn't come with any software and plays in Windows Movie Player fine.

This sounds exactly like a problem I had with my Yi 4k cam. The video file would lock the programme as soon as I pressed play , but I found that it would play if I muted or deleted the audio track first after dropping on to the time line. It seems that the audio track was giving the problems, so I reduced the audio quality for record and had no more problems. I also tried running the original file through xMedia recode to copy it at the same bitrate as the original. That recoded it and the new version ran without any problems.

Be interested to know if you find the same.

Perfect, I reduced the camera volume to 80%, 70%, 60%, 50% and OFF but still had the same issue so I split the audio and video in MEP and deleted the audio and it worked. I also downloaded xMedia recode and ran the file through that and it worked too 🙃

Thanks Roger 👍
