Program Settings irritations

John-Elmer wrote on 3/27/2026, 12:35 PM

I recently upgraded from Pro X 15 to Pro X 17 on my Windows 11 machine and there are a couple subtle program issues that are irritating.

1 - File Open or Ctrl Q now opens a splash screen instead of going directly to a Windows Explorer dialog. The "recently used" list in the splash screen is nice if you are just going back to a recent project, but for me it's not a useful feature and I would like to turn it off.

2 - When I do get past this Open Project splash screen into a Windows Explorer dialog it opens to the last used directory folder (such as an audio folder or a photo folder) which is not ideal. I have set the Program Settings to the drive and folder where I store projects but this setting is being ignored.

If someone has a clue if these "features" can be tweaked in a Magix .ini file I would appreciate the feedback.

Sincerely

@John-Elmer

Hi,

1. The File Open is Ctrl+O, not Ctrl+Q. No, unfortunately, at least I have not found a way. You will still have to click on Open on that "splash" screen. Did you try turning off this screen by clicking on the settings gear at the bottom left of the splash screen. It say "Skip this window on start." I didn't try it and I am wondering if maybe it turns it off permanently.

2. Unfortunately, this has always been a problem. And, this is not the only place where this happens and it's quite annoying. I should have noted the other places where this is a problem.

@browj2

Hi John

. . . . "Skip this window on start." . . . .

This skips the window on start, going straight to a new empty timeline.

@John-Elmer

Turn the above option on, then use the option indicated below to go direct to the root project folder a set in the program settings.
