Program stopped opening, but had worked

desp50 wrote on 10/7/2021, 7:29 PM

Error code 1603 comes up when I try to reinstall Movie Edit Pro 2020. Also, the accompanying program Music Maker 64 (2020 edition). When it comes to a window requesting to 'remove the software', another window says that the 'account already exists' and everything just backs out of the removal process. Neither can I locate and run either of the 2 programs anymore, but they did run. How can I restore these programs?

Hi

Error -1603 is a Windows Installer error and usually means the installer cannot access the Windows Temp folder due to incorrect user account permissions or Antivirus is blocking the installation.

See this Support article.

Try installing MEP 2020 again, however right click the installation file and select Run as Administrator, you may also need to temporarily disable your Antivirus.

HI, on the 'run as admin', no luck. I do this anyways all the time. The program HAD INStalled successfully many weeks ago and run. The problem now is that is just stopped with an error message. So I tried to reinstall BEfore taking it off. Maybe that was an error on my part. I don't know why it just stopped and told me to reinstall. I have a limited C SS drive at 118Gbytes and I constantly come close to exceeding that each time I install a new program (on D drive)

@johnebaker. Hi and thank you for the ideas and reference. It sounded that it would work if I followed those instructions. I tried to uninstall and got the usual " can't install since another installation is already running and then gave error code 1638, which is basically what was covered by your reference. I tried removing the software lines as indicated. Not luck afterwards. So I then tried going into the Registry (danger!) and removing all references to Movie Edit Pro Plus/ 2020 version. Then rebooted. This did not solve the problem. In fact I still got the same old message of " another installation of same is running'. In the cntl alt del list I cannot find any other such program running.

@desp50

In order to completely remove all previous installations (including the one that is currently "stuck") try using the Microsoft tool. Do ensure you follow the instructions carefully.

HI,

Thank you for the suggestion. It sounded very hopeful to be a perfect solution, as advertised by Microsoft. I tried the tool but could not find the software to unload. I think I need to find the product code, as an alternative, but don't know where to find that. Maybe at my Magix account?

desp50 wrote on 10/11/2021, 3:03 PM

Hi again @emmrecs. I got ride of the 'already running program' notification which stopped me from reinstalling MEP plus software earlier. However, no, with no antivirus on either, I get a new message ...and cannot get into the Magix server to report this new message: 'failed to set security descriptor on C:\user\public\documents\magix\common\videocontent\MEP plus\..... system error 4147024891
