why does my project window in timeline mode doesn't show up when I'm trying to edit video and sound

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

I think you need to add a screen grab of your problem for us to be able to work out what you think you should be seeing.

A normal timeline view would look like this.

Try Window>Window Arrangement>Reset Window Arrangement. That will reset the screen to that shown in Cubeace's post above.
