proper settings for recording 1080p at 30fps

Schmacker wrote on 7/1/2019, 5:10 PM

I have been searching for days trying to figure out the proper setting to record video with MEP2019 using my logitech C920.

I've found almost nothing on how to record. To the point that I'm beginning to wonder if MEP should even be used for recording or is only for editing video recorded elsewhere. But yet, I see the record functions in the software.

When I click the red record button the Recording Source Selection window is opened and I am selecting ANALOG. Following shows the settings on the subsequent screen:

I think I have the settings where they make sense to me for 1080p. However, many times if I open the Recording Quality:Configuration tab I see that the frame rate has been reset to 5. Why?, How? I don't know

The video I see is dramatically slow. I.E, if I move my hand across in front of the camera, the movement is actually displayed nearly a full second later.

I recorded a sample video where I clapped my hands. The audio and video were out of sync by nearly 4 seconds.

What am I doing wrong? Or is MEP just not intended for recording.

Thanks for tolerating and assisting a frustrated newbie,

Bob

Hi Bob.

Looking at the technical specs for your Logitec C920 it says the cameras maximum output is 1080 x 720 but you have MEP configured for 1920 x 1080. Maybe try resetting the frame resolution?

Also, are you recording to any external drives?

I assume the camera is working ok on its own within Windows.

If not.

There are also warnings of not connecting the camera to a USB hub but to directly connect to a USB port or there could be complications (no mention of what).

Last but not least, can you try a different audio driver other than windows WDM?

Ray.

Thanks for the reply Ray.

The C920 does in fact record at 1920x1080 at 30 FPS. I confirmed that by recording a file with just the Logitech Capture software;

I'm not connecting to any external drives. I'm saving to the local drive which is SSD.

The camera does work with the Logitech Capture software.

The camera is currently plugged into a hub, but it is a 3.0. I'll change try plugging it directly without the hub.

The audio driver is actually that of my external USB mic (NS-PAUBMD8).

Hi Bob and Ray,

I also have the Logitech C920 and it says on the front of it HD 1080p. It does record in full HD, but not in MEP or VPX and yes, the audio goes way out of sync. I reported this a long time ago but didn't pursue it. Instead, I installed the Logitech Capture program, now at version 1.01.19. The program has many more camera controls than MEP/VPX.

Thus, I can only suggest that you do the same as MEP/VPX is unable to record at the desired resolution. Magix will probably tell you that your computer is not powerful enough or something. Not true. Recording works fine with Logitech Capture program, well almost. I don't use it much because, although it captures my messy office fine (it should clean up my office or blur the background or something), it does a terrible job with my face and hair, requiring major corrective action. Combing my hair and a facelift would probably help.

MEP/VPX do record audio very well.

Sorry, I was only going by the spec sheet. The C920s was quoted at 1920 x 1080 but not the C920.

I'm not a one to use webcams so I can only go by the info I find on the net. I do remember having similar problems a long time ago trying to make a webcam do something with other than it's propriety software. Good luck whichever solution you take.
