Addition/correction:

Yes and no, the level control associated with an object can only be moved down to -45 dB after which the audio is off.

For fine control of the level control, click on it and while holding down the mouse button move the mouse to the right, the further you move the finer the control you have when moving the mouse up/down while the pointer is away from the slider - see this tutorial.

For lower levels than -45 dB this can only be done at track level for which there are 2 ways and you have to use the Mixer to do this.

  1. Open the Mixer (M key) and then either
     
  2. use the volume slider for the track you require

    or for more accurate levels
     
  3. double click the value box at the bottom of the slider of the track you want to adjust, see image below, and type in the value you require eg -35, and press enter.

Values -70 and lower are considered as off.
