Questions re Plug in/Title Template control - a New Years Resolution?

I am prompted to ask a question that is 'bugging me' as a result of the recent posting of Title Templates missing after the recent MEP upgrade.

Okay in this instance we knew that there was a problem because of the '0' downloading message, but does anyone actually keep a record of what plug-ins one has? Either purchased or came as bonus features with the program at some stage? But then, in what format does one keep the information that would be helpful?

I actually think I am missing one (sorry, a text I mean)– what I believed was a rolling Star Wars end credit with the words unrolling and scrolling up the screen and contracting into the distance, getting smaller and smaller. Perhaps it came with the program a few years back, but then comes another question, should I be making a back-up copy somehow of these title templates – they don’t come via the normal downloads folder system?

Also, having just taken advantage of ‘what seems a good idea at the time’ add on purchase in the Christmas/New Year Sale in the Store, what system should I then be adopting to make sure I have some good idea as to what the add-on actually does? As a result of the ‘Missing Template’ problem, I realise I have a number of such programs, installed, but so far not used.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

'I must do more backups' is one 👍.

Every upgrade I re-download the Installed Extra Content again, when you do this you are given the option to keep the downloaded content in the download installation folder. I back this up to another folder/drive.

The big issue is which effects/functions/features from an earlier version are compatible with the current version, these can be divided into 3 categories:

those that work as usual
those that have to be upgraded to work
and those that are incompatible and will never work

The upgrade to MEP 2020, for instance, required all extra content to be downloaded and installed again as they were upgraded to version 19.x.x.x as shown below. There were, IIRC, a couple of Templates which were no longer in the Extra Content.

There is no option for the Store to show only your purchased content, and, AFAIK, there is definitive list of what has been included in previous versions of MEP - I could be corrected on the last statement.

John, I think the 'key comment' in your answer is that of 'back-ups'. Whilst I do action a back up, normally monthly, I concentrate on My Documents / Pictures & Music folders but now am wondering where this extra 'Installed Content' is actually saved.

All my programs are installed on a different (C) Drive to the regularly used Documents/Pictures/Music on (E) Drive. And, like I recently found with my extra downloaded Fonts which I only recently realised is stored within the (C) Drive and so had not originally been part of my back-up process.I obviously need to track down where the 'Installed Extra Content' is saved.

I do, though, back-up my Downloads Folder so can re-install all my programs should the worse come to the worse.

Hi George

The default Download folder location is specified in the Program setting, Folders tab this is different to the Windows Downloads folder.

Do you mean fonts in general or those specific to MEP?

If general then I presume you mean they are in the Windows, Fonts folder.

If specific to MEP then I assume you mean in the C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\version\Titles\Fonts folder.

Thanks agin John for your advice.

On fonts I was talking generally. It was the fact that despite my thinking that I was doing backups, the extra general fonts I had downloaded were not being saved. Obviously a case of making sure that when we do backups that we cover every potential issue.

I have 3 different back up regimes for -

A master backup of the folder which contains all my MEP and Music Maker projects complete with source files, resources etc used, usually run at 2 month intervals
A current project backup run after major editing sessions, this also backs up other folders that contain my website projects.
A full PC OS drive backup this is an entire image of the C: drive (OS and program files) run after every major upgrade to programs

For 1 and 2 I use SyncBack, for 3, I now use Macrium Reflect and all backups got to external hard drives.

That is brilliant. Something to make us re-think my current routine and thus hopefully avoid future issues. I had thought my own system was okay but then can easily sleep walk into realising that something you want was not actually backed up.

I do backup to an external portable hard drive, normally monthly so ensure recent family photos are not lost, and I use Aomei Backupper.
