Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the thumbnails on the timeline? One one of my computer thats a bit slugish, its slows things down quite a bit on it, so I was wondering if there is a way to disable thubnails appearing on the timeline. I men if it was just 1 for the start of a clip thats fine. However its showing one every few seconds.

Hi

AFAIK there is no way to disable the thumbnails on the timeline - however I would not expect them to slow down your computer.

Further information is required - your full computer specification, including Windows version and whether 32 or 64 bit.

Hi Bassam

You beat me to it - although it theoretically could also slow down preview by taking CPU cycles to create the next lot of thumbnails as the curser reaches the end of the current timeline view. But yes, multicored / threaded CPU's can handle this aspect better.

You can adjust the program settings > Audio/Video tab > Timeline > Simple display of video objects (first and last image): From the Help or Manual - "Activate this function if you are having performance problems. The preview images of a video in the project window will only be displayed at the beginning and end of the video." This is designed do exactly what you are trying to achieve and you could also experiment with some of the other settings in this box which are probably designed to reduce the display of graphics data.

Actually you can make the thumbnails disappear altogether by compressing the timeline vertically ( +/- at far right) but I doubt you would gain much.

Peter,

That's odd. Saw the OP's post on my iPad in the lounge over breakfast about 10 minutes ago - apparently with no replies. Rattled this off and came to hit Send, only to find you and John had pipped me to the post!

Anyway, can't waste all those coloured bytes, so I've posted it anyway.
