Right click > Movement > effects behave inconsistently

terrypin wrote on 3/18/2017, 9:09 AM

With an object selected on the MEP 2016 Premium timeline, I'm getting strangely inconsistent behaviour when I use Right click > Movement > Zoom Out (or In). On a minority of occasions I get an exaggerated zoom range of 156 to 64, instead of the correct 126 to 100. With a zoom in, I sometmes get 100 to 156 instead of 100 to 126.

Similar unexpected results sometimes using Movement > Pan.

It's always the first time I apply the effect. If I reset and try again, it's OK.

Hi Terry,

I tried on both VPX and MEP2016 and I get 100-126 zooming in, and 126-100 zooming out. I tried several times. No problems with panning either.

Thanks for testing, John. It's probably going to be tough/impossible to isolate the cause. Anyone else ever seen similar, or have any clue as to what might cause such odd behaviour please?

Hi Terry

Using MEP 2016 I cannot repeat this either.

. . . . any clue as to what might cause such odd behaviour please . . . .

The only thing I can think that may be a potential cause would be if your mouse is 'getting on a bit', in which case it may be beginning to suffer from contact bounce and produces a random double click, depending on your mouse settings in Windows, this should in theory not happen.

I wish I still had my very old mouse which was guaranteed to do this regularly, then I could check this theory.

Thanks John. Don't you just hate these intermittent flaws! I'll use the KB shortcuts for a while and if I don't get a single reoccurrence that will tend to reinforce your contact bounce hypothesis and I'll then revert to the mouse. (A nice vertical Anker model for the last six months or so, BTW. I find a 'normal' mouse really awkward now.)

However, I haven't had evidence of mouse malfunction elsewhere, so I rather suspect it's some other obscure cause.

Hi Terry

. . . .nice vertical Anker model . . .

Interesting choice - I could not get on with one of the first Logitech vertical mice, I kept forgetting to move it !!!

I have since stayed with a Logitech Marble Mouse ever since they came out - saves a lot of wrist ache for me, got RSI over 20 years ago.

Cheers
