Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

First, you need to understand this is a user to user forum; no-one here is Magix support, but if you give us rather more information about the specifics of your problem someone may be able to offer advice. Reading this post will give you some idea of what we need to know.

You say

For the second time in 3 months, I've bought a Magix video editor that simply won't install

I assume you received a refund when the first one failed to install? Which program was it? Exactly what happened when you tried to install it? Any error message(s)?

Ditto for the second one.

Failure to install can be caused by a variety of problems and is often not easy to diagnose. One common problem is your antivirus and/or firewall or even Windows own UAC blocking installation. Could that be the case here?

If you do want help with this please work with us. None of us are Magix employees but we will do our very best to assist any user who is genuinely seeking help.

And before you buy, try. If it doesn't work, find out why. That is why Magix has trial versions that can be unlocked if you decide to buy.

Hi

In addition to the previous 2 comments, ensure sure that your hardware meets the requirements of the software.

For us to be able to help you we need more information:

  1. Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset, RAM,  hard drive configuration, sizes and free space?

  2. Windows version and is it up to date?  Press and hold down the Windows key and the R key - in the dialog that opens type in winver and press enter.

  3. Software full name that you purchased

  4. Antivirus installed

  5. The error message(s), if any, when installing

No. I didn't get a refund because the code had somehow already been registered. Now the new software has finally installed but it keeps asking for the serial number and when I enter it, a screen comes up saying 'please wait'. This screen has been up for about 8 hours and I can't even close it with the task manager.

That is only possible I think if you had somehow registered it or you bought the software second-hand. Where did you purchase it?

Does the computer it is installed on have internet access? Is your firewall set to allow the program (you've still not told us which program it is!) to communicate via the net? I have never heard of that registration screen staying unresponsive for about 8 hours so I think there must be something else going on here.

To help you, and us, please reread the previous posts and try to give us the answers to ALL the questions posed. We really are "shooting in the dark" at the moment.

Christ almighty! Of course I am connected to the internet! No, I bought it from Mediamarkt, brand new. I have a Dell laptop running Windows 10. The software is video deluxe 2014 (German title) Movie Edit Pro 2014 (English title). It might not be the latest version but I bought it brand new. I'm using Norton anti-virus. The software has installed but now it simply won't register.

I apologise if you found my question about internet connection offensive but there are cases of users being unable to register the software because their internet is not functioning correctly.

Can I just clarify one detail; you say you purchased MEP 2014? Yes, it certainly isn't the latest version (latest is MEP 2018) and so I am surprised that Mediamarkt is still offering it for sale. Just for reference, Medimarkt in which country?

You say you have Norton Antivirus. Is that also your firewall? If so, can you check that it is not preventing MEP contacting the Magix server, perhaps by temporarily disabling it?

Thanks also for the confirmatory picture, which you posted as I was typing.

Thanks. I'm here in Germany. I disabled the firewall but it makes no difference. I used to use Magix products all the time on my old PC, but recently, I've found their products to be disastrous.

Thanks for your latest post.

I'm afraid I'm currently out of ideas as to why registration fails for you, unless, for some unknown reason, the server is off-line. Clearly, being the weekend, there is no way to check, I think.

Can I ask you to try again on Monday? If there is still this problem, feel free to contact me again, either via the forum or by the forum Message facility and I will try and see what Magix have to say about this problem.

In the meantime, you could open a Support Ticket here, if you wish.

@gavin-k

We appreciate how frustrating software can be, however please keep your replies civil, to the point and answer the questions asked - fault diagnosis is a step by step process and, as we are not sat at your computer, the process may involve a lot of questions, testing and responding with the results in order to eliminate the possible causes of this issue.

Please read sections 1 and 2 here.

We are still waiting for the detail on version numbers for Windows 10 and MEP, if it is listed on the package or disc cover, as requested in my previous post.

The behaviour you are experiencing is typical of no Internet connection or the software being blocked from connecting to the registration servers.

Check the following:

  1. Norton is not blocking the program from accessing the Internet and Windows Defender has not managed to turn itself on despite the presence of an alternative antivirus/firewall - this happened to me with the 1703 upgrade recently.

  2. Open Internet Explorer (not Edge) and check the following settings are turned on

    and

  3. Then try registering again.

HTH

I recently had issues re-installing my Magix product. My one is 2017 movie edit pro, however I think you may find my process of some use.

First of all, completely uninstally your magix product with add and remove programs. If you have any other software/plugins with your product such as New Blue Effects or Vasco De Gama, use add and remove programs to remove these to iff they exist.

Now restart.

Next thing is to go through your User profiles and remove all traces of magix, new ble and Vasco folders. Also check Program folders (including x86).

Next you need to remove all traces of magix, new blue and vasco from the registry. please be careful when doing this. I suggest you back up your registry before doing this.

After all traces of your Magix produscts are removed, restart your machine.

Now, go to your original purchase email you would have receiced when you FIRST got your product. Use the links in that email to install the program and all its features again.

This worked for me. I can also confirm that video deluxe still installs as I had this a few years ago and in the attempts to put my 2017 back to right, I tried this. I managed to install it completely ok with all features working ok.

If the seriel number is saying "already in use" I would login to your magix account and you can de-register that product froma machine that is using it. Magix enables you to use it on 2 machines.

I have never heard of MediaMarkt, if you're having issues still you need to contact them. Although Magix do have their downfalls, this would not appear to be a Migix issue.

I should also check if you are using any "cracked" software products on your machine. If so I would consider removing them and all rements of them. The "cracks" used often block ports that are used for server registration connection.
