Hello community of current images,

I am here because I want to give new life to my old S8 films to possible to make gifts with appropriate medias towards children and grandchildren. I scanned the films, which were recorded out of economy with 18 frames per second, with a scanner of Reflecta with (it was no other choice) 25fps. When these files are played on the TV, everything is a bit hectic. I’m sure there are some here who also had this problem and know the settings for importing into Video DELUX and exporting to Stick or CD.

Please help!!!

Karl-Dieter

Hi,

I digitized my S8 at 20 fps (default of the Wolverine), 1080p. Go to Effects, Video effects, Speed, and change the value to 18.

You may also want to use Neat Video to clean up the digitized image.

Hi,

thnx for answer.Just I looked at description of Reflecta for framerate it is definatly 30fps. I have to try to find the corect setting. Is the Wolverine the same mine, only name changed? But 2 different fps. What you think about that?

@karl-dieter-haugk

I would doubt whether your scanner's frame rate can be changed to any appreciable degree, if at all.

So, you need to follow the advice @browj2 gave you in his post and, with your scanned file imported to and opened in MEP, Go to Effects, Video effects, Speed and change the value to 18.

I know that John CB has some considerable experience of digitising cine film. You could do far worse than at least try what he is suggesting.

Hi,

According to the Reflecta website details, it is like mine, producing a file of 1440x1080 at 20fps.

Don't confuse your project settings with the video file. Your project settings in Germany would be 25fps.

Put a video clip on the timeline, select it and look at the properties and then at the Speed. Mine shows 20fps under Speed but my project is NTSC at 29.97. I simply change the 20 to 18 for S8, 16 for regular 8. VDL will adjust by adding frames to compensate between 18 and 25 fps. You can also check the box to Interpolate intermediate images. Check that this gives a better result than unchecked.

When you export, use the same settings as your project - 25fps.

Hi

My Reflecta scanner is a 2019 version digitising MP4 at 20fps, but I know that until quite recently Reflecta scanners (maybe Wolverine too) digitised at 30fps. I don't know when exactly the fps was changed.

@Richard-Curtis

correct, there must be a change. I have here the original box of Refecta on which is written 30 fps.

@browj2

Thank you John C.B.
I’ll follow your hints and then be able to make presentable films, especially if Neat Video is used.

Hi

. . . . especially if Neat Video is used . . . .

Do note that while Neat Video is an excellent de-noiser add-on, I use it too, it is very processor/GPU intensive and will slow down exports, ie increase export time, dramatically.

How much the export time is extended to depends on the export video resolution and your computer specification.

@browj2 may have some tips on using Neat Video with digitised film, I only use it on 4K video clips.
