Screen Captures doesn't work.

paul.luippold wrote on 9/21/2014, 8:43 AM

I updated to Magix Movie Edit Pro2014 Plus to get Screen Capture Feature. When I run it all seems to go OK until

I close Screen Capture to look at what was captured, and no video is captured. I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE machine with  (64bit) windows 7 running with a AMD Radeon HD 6570 Display Adapter. I checked on the driver and it's updated.  Can anyone help?

Hi,

What are you trying to capture? If it's a MEP screen, it won't work. You would need to open a second instance.

Give us more details as to exactly what you did so that we can help you without having to guess at what you did.

Hi John,

No it's not MEP screen, it's a web page, or any other appliication that's running and producing activity on the screen, so I can make instructional videos.

Thank you for your response,

PAul

Hi John,

Also after several trys I relized that the Screen Capture records the Audio on the line in on the sound card, and the screen shows any mouse movements on a black background. But when I play a video in the window it doesn't pickup the sound or video.

Thanks

Paul

Hi

Try the different video modes in MEPs settings - you probably have it set to Direct 3D.

Website recording may be impossible where, for example, they are Flash based.

There is also the issue of Copyright which you need to be aware of, unless you own the copyright or have permission to record the contents of whatever is producing activity.  Unless clearly states that the 'activity' is copyright free or free to use then someone owns the copyright.

I did at one time manage to work with Magix Screen Capture (MPE2014 Plus). However, when I tried it today to help out, I just got into trouble. I could not get it to record sound from the computer....at first. I went through a bad hour or so of rebooting and sound problems.

The program says to select Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio. I selected that as the Audio Driver. That didn't work. It asked to change configuration or that it couldn't connect, etc. I ended up having to disable Stereo Mix under Recording in Windows as it started a type of feedback sound, full volume. I rebooted. No success. I tried re-enabling Stereo Mix, same bad sound. However, I did finally somehow manage to get Stereo Mix back on line. Don't know exactly how. I believe that it was when I changed the properties by clicking of the 44k and then apply.

John, you mentioned Direct 3D in the MEP settings. I believe that that is the problem and the solution. (This is on the Display options of the Program settings.) I changed the Video mode to "Alternative mode 2 (Video Mixing Renderer9)." Then I tried the Capture program again. I selected the Stereo Mix a the driver. The sound recording came out badly; I just ran an mp3 file. I went into the Recording Quality configuration settings and changed the sample rate to 44k. That worked.

Hare the screens that made it work:

Program settings, Video mode:

Question: Can I leave the setting in this mode or will I have trouble with something else?

Screen capture settings:

Screen capture settings; Recording quality, Configuration:

I'll file this away for next time.

Paul, were you finally successful at getting the sound?

I usually use a different program from a competitor for screen capturing, as I was capturing MEP and having two instances of MEP open caused the program to slow down. The competitor wisely separated it from the movie editing program so that the footprint is quite small.

Hi

. . . . Question: Can I leave the setting in this mode or will I have trouble with something else? . . . .

Direct 3D mode utilises hardware acceleration so this is the best to use, however it does have problems with capturing depending on the graphics card.

The Compataility mode and Alternative mode 2 do not (IIRC) use HWA so put more load on the processor which can result in playback issues for HD.

Another problem which can cause a similar issue is dual screen working.

I use two screens the main screen has the main interface panes,  the preview screen is maximised on the second monitor. Using DirectX 3D I cannot capture the preview monitor along with the main interface when doing a screenshot. or capturing

Me too. I've always found MEP over complicated for this simple task.

John EB,

I have a 2 screen setup as well, and with VPX6 I sometimes forget that the preview image is on my left screen and the source image is on the main screen with the program. Why doesn't that effect work? Ooops, wrong monitor. Must be sign of aging.

Thanks for the answer about the Video mode.

Here is a screen shot of my screen capture program. Very simple, no difficult parameters like the Magix program, and it gives a choice as to which monitor to record, and a selection of the window in the popdown. I can't capture both screens at once either.

I can get a screen capture (still image) of the 2 monitors with Alt+PrtSc using the following method. Resize the main program to be just a bit smaller than full screen. In the image below, I have VPX6 slightly smaller on the right side of the monitor. Click on the background (desktop) in that small space at the right, and do Alt+PrtSc. Then just crop off the small part at the right. The image below is what was captured, not a composite.
