Screen capturing/recording a TV screen

Hi,

I am looking for some help regarding screen capturing/screen recording.

I am not all that familiar with screen capturing as I have had very little experience in it, so any help would be much appreciated.

To put it simply, I would like to screen record my TV screen/BD Recorder, by connecting a laptop to either the screen or the recorder, and using a capture card to do the capturing. If this works then I am hoping to record a small area of the screen...

My question is what capture software would you recommend I use for this? I'm guessing something like OBS Studio? And also, will I be able to retain quality by recording a small portion of the screen by adjusting the bitrate, etc?

The native resolution of the TV screen I'd be using is 1366x768.

If the BD disk is not a commercial, DRM protected disk, then you should be able to copy the .mts files direct from disk to the laptop and import them into MEP 2018 with no loss of quality.

However if the disk is commercially produced it will have DRM protection which may interfere with the video signal from the copied mts files or capture making the recording(s) useless.

With respect to the quality part of the question, this has been answered in previous questions you have asked on the quality/upscaling of video, nothing has changed there.

The capture software and hardware to use is outside the scope of this forum and should be asked in the appropriate software/hardware user forums.
