Secondary color/colour correction makes image the wrong size (ME Pro 2013 Premium)

Spirivid wrote on 1/28/2014, 10:16 AM

Afternoon all!

A quick question which I hope someone might be able to help with.

I've been working on a project that I'm due to deliver on Saturday (it's now Tuesday), involving putting lots of sections of different videos together, along with music. All has been going well so far - until I tried using secondary color correction.

I wanted to add orange color to some black-and-white movie footage of a burning building, to make the flames stand out.

The colour came out just as I wanted, but in fullscreen playback in the MEP preview monitor and when exporting to MPEG, the size of the video image was only occupying a portion of the screen, when it should have been fullscreen. Thus:

The orange-and-black image in the top left corner should be occupying the full screen, obscuring the background image which just happens to be on another track on the timeline. (NB the presence or absence of an image on another track makes no difference - whilst trying to fix the problem I created a new MEP project just to create this one effect on this one clip, and still had the same problem.)

I have also tried to "confirm" the image size and section using the relevant options in the video effects pool, but this isn't doing the trick either.

FWIW I have been able to export the original black and white clip in the correct size. It seems to me that the software is taking the size of the image in my preview monitor and using this in the fullscreen playback and export instead of the size of image I actually wanted - but only after the secondary colour correction is applied.

I have been so enjoying using MEP 2013, but yet again I've found a weird bug...

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

FYI My PC spec is good (Core i5, 16GB, etc.) - I have already made a number of videos using various versions of MEP without any troubles.

Hi,

I believe it's a long standing and obscure bug that I first reported over a year ago. It arises in several ways and although I can't find the specific thread right now I'm pretty sure I recall color correction being one of them.

See these threads:

http://www.magix.info/us/why-is-video-in-preview-window-made-smaller-after.knowledge.885390.html

That one also shows one way you might get a quick fix.

Please report it formally via the Technical Support Request form. I haven't methodically checked whether it still exists in MEP 2014 but I wouldn't be surprised.

Hi Terry - thanks very much for those suggestions!

I'm currently working on another section of my video (pulling bits of nature documentaries together from a variety of sources), but will look into your suggestions ASAP - hopefully in time to benefit my project!

I'm very grateful for your help!

Terry, thank you very much for those suggestions!

I have now implemented your solution as suggested in thread http://www.magix.info/us/why-is-video-in-preview-window-made-smaller-after.knowledge.885390.html, and the results are everything I've hoped for!

FWIW and if anyone is curious, I did as you suggested, thus:

 - switch off GPU rendering

 - switch off hardware acceleration

 - and then closed the project on which I was working and reopened it.

Problem solved!

I'm curious to see whether  the two "switch-offs" above will cure a problem I had with the some sections (from one or two of my ripped DVDs) of the exported MPEG flickering/jumping in playback on my PC. This did not occur when I exported "uncompressed", only in MPEG.

I may export uncompressed and then render down to MPEG. We shall see...

Anyway, once again, thank you very much for this excellent tip!

Hi Terry,

I just wanted to say once again thank you very much for your advice on this issue. The fix you suggested (which I have summarised below) sorted out all the issues, including the flickering/jumping images in MPEG export.

The final version of my video is available to view here if anyone's curious. (Not sure why this link is showing as this particular image, but click and it should get you there!)

Direct link to the part of the video I queried, now working fine:

I will send a query to Tech Support for a future bug fix.

Thanks again!

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Glad to hear you finished your video - and a very professional looking result it is!

Please let us know of any feedback you get from MAGIX.
