Serious Program Error -- Crash -- Batch conversion

Ralph_S wrote on 9/25/2013, 10:39 PM

I am using Video Edoit Pro 2014 Plus, v13. I am doing a batch conversion of video ("VOD") files, copied from a DVD to my hardisk, to MPEG-2 format on an extermal USB drive. After many tries, the program runs for a while then crashes with the error, "Error in module "ntdll.dll" (Load address xx) Exception 0xc0000005 "ACCESS_VIOLATION". This has worked in the past for me on different files. I have checked these files using CHKDSK, but have not found any problems.

I am using Windows 7 (64bit), Pentium i7 processor, 16 gb RAM.

Hi,

Have you installed the last patch? Check for a version update using the Help menu in Magix sofyware. You have a good computer check your USB connection and use the fast USB port (special color on the port). Also clean your hard drive use a Cleaner like PCCleaner, CC cleaner or RegClean any cleaner can do the job some are free.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have the latest patch (v13.0.1.4), and I'm using the USB3.0 port with a 3.0 compatible external drive. I will try the registry cleaner, and get back to you to see if it helps.

Hi

. . . . I'm using the USB3.0 port with a 3.0 compatible external drive . . . .

That could be part of the problem - I have several different makes of USB ext hard drives and not one of them works continuously in a satisfactory manner - I get several dropouts with the HDD drives momentarily disconnecting themselves, also they may be going to sleep/hibernate if the computer is allowed to power manage the USB ports - I make sure mine are permanently on.

I would forget the registry cleaner - they can do more harm then good if you are not careful about what you let them delete.

Try the batch conversion to an internal hard drive.

I only use the ext HDD for backup only.

HTH

John

John, thanks for your response. Since I usually set these batch processes to run overnight, I also thought about the "hibernation" of USB ports. Sure enough, mine was set to "sleep" after about 2-4(?) hours. I disabled that, let Norton 360 do a registry check, and ran a batch of files at work where I could monitor what was going on. The first batch of about 8 files worked like a charm!!   Ah, the problem is solved. So I started a second batch of about 6 files -- I got the same critical error!! This error repeated even after after a reboot, and registry check. ??
