Thanks for the tip. It really helped solve my problem. I am wondering what the shortcuts to copy video effects and to paste them (as opposed to right click, etc). It looks like copy is shift - while paste is just the "-", but they don't seem to work. This will make it easier to apply effects to multiple objects at the same time.

I'm really not the person to ask about shortcuts as I'm primarily used to using the mouse for most things.

@BSMan Bob, assuming VPX is the same as MEP, the keyboard shortcuts are also shown on the right-click menu for each action.

I saw the shortcuts displayed when I right clicked and selected video effects. The menu displayed showed shortcuts, but it looked like the shortcut for paste the copied shortcuts was shift and a minus sign. Turns out that it's shift underscore (which is shift and the dash).

But after figuring the shortcuts out I have not been able to keep the pasted fade in shortcut in the many objects I pasted it to. Looked like it worked, but when I generated the video the fade ins were not there. I tried this a number of times including removing the lock on each object before pasting and doing each object individually. It looked like the fade ins were there, but they did not appear in the rendered video and then disappeared from the editing timeline. I've now tried manually setting the fade in for each object, but the problem with doing it that way is that each fade in will not be exactly the same, which is important when multiple windows start being displayed at the same time. As I write this the video is being rendered, so I'm hoping it works, but the result will not be as uniform as it should be.

I assume that when pasting fade ins/outs that the lock has to be taken off each object before pasting, even though the fade ins/outs displayed when I initially tried the pasting. This inability to keep pasted fade ins/outs is very frustrating and has been for me a big time waster.

When a track is locked you can only perform a limited number of actions to an object on the timeline.

For a lot of editing the track lock has to be off.

Personally I only use the track locks after I have completed all the edits, effects etc.

I also save the project regularly and if there are major edits use versioning as well - adding a number to the file name using Save project as option.

As far as naming of the particular key - minus is the most common designation for the key, thogh some refer to it hyphen or dash - the convention when referring to keys such as the top row of the keyboard is to use the name of the character you get without pressing the shift key,

@BSMan You can type in the exact fade time: RC on the video and choose the Object Trimmer. You can set the exact fade (in and out) in frames at the top of the sloping lines display.

Would be quicker to have the Paste function work though...

For transitions the copy/paste ( minus, shift + minus) does not work only fade in/out can be copied this way.

For transitions such as crossfade etc, they have there own method of propagating the same transition and settings throughout a track - set up the first transition as required, then right click it and select Apply to all of following objects in the track, or Apply to all objects in the track - do note the subtle difference between the 2 options, the second will apply to any objects before the one you have just set as well as those following.

Is there some way to accomplish the following? Start full screen zooming in to a section, then display that section for a while, then zoom out to full screen. If I set up three clips from the original clip I can define the section I want in the middle section; however, there does not seem to be a way to set up the first section so it starts with full screen then zooms in to the same section defined in the second clip, since I would like to copy the section selection only to the ending point of the zoom. Same situation with the third clip except in reverse where I start with the section and zoom out to full screen. The problem seems to be that I can't copy the defined section to the starting or ending points of the zoom effects.
