Hi

. . . .  I installed Music Maker 80s edition, song maker was there . . . .. After installing the program update, the song maker function disappeared.

I suspect you have updated to Music Maker 2021 which is using the EDM version serial number and is basically running as the free version which does not have Song Maker.

You need to reverse this upgrade see this comment for the fix.

Hi,

Shortly after I started Music Maker, it prompted me to update to "Music Maker Patch 29.0.4.25", so I proceeded with the update. After this, the Song Maker item disappeared from the control tab menu. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling without updating, but the Song Maker function is no longer on the control tab nor in the view menu to be added to the control tab.

Thanks

Did you follow exactly the process detailed in the post that @johnebaker gave you a link to? Once the reinstall was completed and without allowing any updates did you enter the serial/activation key for your MM 80s Edition?

Hi,

Here is what I have been able to determine.

Initially, what is installed is Music Maker version 28. This is a 32-bit application which includes Song Maker as well as the ability to use 32-bit VSTs (at least) even without the $20 VST Bridge add-on. Song Maker does not seem to appear on the Control Bar, and at this point I don't remember if it did, but it is listed in the Effects drop down menu and can be opened with the W key.

Every time the program is launched from then on, the Start dialog prompts you to upgrade to a Patch 29.x.x.x, which is apparently a completely new 64-bit version of Music Maker that no longer contains Song Maker and requires a $20 add-on to use VSTs.

I have tried entering my serial number in either of these, but it ignores this and says:

"You already own all content from this serial number. You can download this from the Store."

Presumably, the serial number was only for a few free Soundpools, an Instrument, and a tiny instrument. On my Magix account page it says I can install Music Maker on two systems, but it does not recognize that I have entered my serial number in either activation slot.

Currently, I have both Music Maker 28 and 29 installed, and aside from the annoyance of not having Song Maker appearing on the Control Bar where I think it was supposed to be from other posts, 28 offers the more important functions.

I am not at all happy with the approach of coming out with a new version of the software advertised as a patch, and disabling vital functions only to put those functions in the store as paid add-ons. Not cool IMO.

Can you open and run MM 28, you can check under Help>About as to exactly which version you are using?

Version 29 is the first to use a 64 bit engine and, as such, is viewed by Magix as a new program. To be able to continue to use any earlier non-Free variant, i.e., either Plus or Premium, in the 64 bit environment necessitated a paid upgrade rather than a simple update. I understand your annoyance at being offered the update to version 29; this problem has caught out quite a number of users!

Version 28 can run 32 bit VSTs, and does not need the VSTBridge, if you have one of those non-Free variants. (The Bridge is to allow 32 bit VSTs to run in a 64 bit environment.) The Free variant does not allow VSTs.

I am not at all sure why you would still have version 29 installed if you followed the instructions in the previously-mentioned linked post. The point is that you really need to remove version 29 if you do not want to pay to upgrade to it. As a matter of interest, versions 28 and 29 can co-exist (I have them both) but, if you want access to anything in version 29 beyond the basic, Free, features you do need to upgrade. (Just out of interest, I just opened my installation of MM 28 Premium, clicked on Effects>Song maker (shortcut W) and it opened immediately.)

You also say you receive a message: "You already own all content from this serial number. You can download this from the Store." Have you actually downloaded this content by going to the Store tab?

28.0.3.53 (32-Bit)

29.0.6.38 (64-Bit)

It still prompts me to upgrade every time I start 28. 😐

Is there any way to disable the Start Dialog?

I paid for Music Maker 2020 80s Edition. 😎

I am not at all sure why you would still have version 29 installed if you followed the instructions in

I left both versions installed for the purposes of testing to find out the differences, such as whether VSTs or Song Maker would would with either.

You also say you receive a message: "You already own all content from this serial number. You can download this from the Store." Have you actually downloaded this content by going to the Store tab?

I already downloaded 3 Soundpools (I chose 80s Synthwave 1&2 Bundle, 80s Tokyo Drift 1&2 Bundle, 80s Synthwave Miami Heat 1&2 Bundle), 1 instrument (DN-E1), and 1 tiny instrument (Bongos).

Cheers

Clearly, it is your decision as to which versions of MM to have installed on your computer.

Song Maker is available in the Premium and Plus variants of MM 2020 (version 28) and the Premium and Plus variants of MM 2021 (version 29). It is not available in the Free variants, which is what your version 29 is. The same is true for VSTs and VSTis.

If you cannot access either of these features in version 28 my suspicion is that the installation of version 29 has somehow "overridden" the version 28 settings.

As previously advised in that linked post, in order to restore full functionality to your version 28 you need to completely uninstall MM, and then reinstall version 28, taking care to ignore any invitation to update byond version 28.0.3.51.

Hi,

I don't know that I will keep the 64-bit version, but for now it may be useful for testing to see if it is more or less stable or performs better under load.

From what I can tell, the 80s edition 28 may be a plus version since it includes Song Maker, but when it upgrades itself to 29, it unfortunately seems to choose a free version of 29 and loses Song Maker. I hope this is an error on their part.

PS - Finally, it is worth mentioning in case others make it to the bottom of this thread, that in order for me to enter the serial numbers for some of my copy protected VSTs and keep them active in 28, it is necessary to run Music Maker 28 as Administrator every time.

Cheers

Yes, that is the point! And No, it is not an error on their part.

As previously explained in this thread if you simply update an existing version 28 installation to version 29, what you then have is the Free version of MM 2021, version 29. It lacks the Song Maker and the facility to add VSTs etc, along with other features, e.g., you are limited to a maximum of 8 tracks.

If you want to access ALL the features in MM 2021 which you had in your previous version, MM 2020, you have to buy the upGRADE. There is no alternative route, sorry! Magix' view is that version 29, aka MM 2021, being the first to be released as a 64 bit app, is a new program and so must be purchased.
