Venkatesh-VTVT wrote on 9/17/2022, 9:28 PM

I am using Movie studio 2023 (purchased). I am using windows 10 with Nvidia graphics card

I was trying to run some videos shot with Sony A1 (with picture profile Cinetone ) .The whole program hange when i add the mp4 files from the camera .They do run properly when i convert them to avi or mpg formats

How do i rectify the issue?

Also am i required to install some LUT files for enhancing the video & if so from where do i get/buy them

Where do i get details of which picture profiles are supported by Movie studio 2023

I also dont understand why the program should hang

I am using windows 10 with Nvidia graphics card

Any help would be appreciated

I am a newbie to video editing

Hi.

Video editing is very computer power intensive. The more Mbs per second the machine has to handle the higher the specification has to be just to get any video editor to play smoothly, so all components used within the processing chain has to be able to move that data around faster. Any one weaker link will throw the whole process of playing back smoothly out. Some codecs also compress the data more than others as well. That also has to be decompressed to be read in real time. Add to that any colour profile changes, sharpening, or other effect added and the amount of data getting processed in real time increases exponentially. Activating proxy files can alleviate this to a degree but is not always successful at higher resolution editing. All Windows updates should be current as well as using the latest graphics drivers at all times to help with performance.

The higher the camera files specifications the more processing power and higher data transfer drive speeds you are going to need and will probably need to spend around at least two thirds of the cost of any camera on any computer capable of processing its video files for a hassle free performance in my opinion. (when I say at least two thirds of the cost I mean preferably much higher).

Your camera is capable of producing highly compressed files running at 520Mbs per second. That's going to need one heck of a computer to play back the files within a video editor smoothly unless you record at much lower bit rates.

Just look at the cost of the CF express cards you have to buy just to be able to record the data fast enough, let alone further process that data in real time within a computer.

Hi @Ray

From what i know i have a high end computer & processing such files (3 to 5 GB files) has never been any issue & whene ver there was any issue coverting to another format took care of the issue

The issue now is how to process a particular picture profile in Movie studio 2023 for color grading & other enhancements which is allowed by that picture profile which in this case is Sony A1's Cinetone

(Sony A1 has log2 & log 3 also which i am not planning to use at all since they are beyond my requirements)

@Venkatesh-VTVT Hi, can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & fill in your Signature with the full name of your CPU, GPU & amount of RAM, also inc the Windows & Magix version, this will then show at the bottom of your comments,

Also there's an App called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍

Hi.

5GB files from a video camera is now becoming a bit more the norm but most still chop a video into 4GB chunks.

Changing the file type to a less compressive file type will ease the strain on a computer system.

Doing as @Former user has asked would give us a better idea of how your system should cope.

LUTS are just another persons idea of how present the colour and tonal curves and doesn't take into account light levels or camera settings that you use on any one video take. There may be LUTS available at a camera manufacturers website but many don't bother. You can yourself alter the look of your footage to taste and then use shot match to level up the look of individual takes.
