Sound forge 13 deleting chunks of audio

Sound forge deletes random chunks of audio when working on a file. There will just be a chunk of silence where there used to be audio. This has persisted across a number of versions. The deletion is permanent and is done to the original file. This seems to happen even if I have not saved the file. That is, the audio will be gone, I close out without saving and reopen, but the chunk is still deleted. Odd and extremely pernicious behavior. I am hesitant to upgrade to version 14 because of this.

Also, it often will play back "silently." That is, I will hit the playback button, the cursor will move, but no sound will come out. I then try again, and it plays back fine.

Anyone else have either of these problems? I have posted on this before with no luck.

SYSTEM: Windows 7, 64 bit, i7, 16 megs of ram.
