Sound Forge Pro Mac 3 has been working great in MacOS Sierra, but I recently had to upgrade to Mojave to resolve an unrelated issue. Since that upgrade, Sound Forge Pro crashes when I use the pencil tool.
Here are some things I've tried:
- I reinstalled Sound Forge Pro, but that didn't help.
- I know Mojave introduced new Security & Privacy settings, so I tried adding Sound Forge Pro to the list of apps with Full Disk Access, but that also didn't help.
- In Googling around, I saw forum posts for other apps where users had crashing issues with apps that have pencil tools. I saw a suggestion somewhere that Dark Mode could cause problems, so I switched to Light Mode, but that didn't help.
- I saw another suggestion somewhere to copy the audio into a new file and use the pencil tool on the new file, but that didn't help either.
Strangely, I have a slightly older second Macbook Pro that I usually keep on a previous MacOS version, but to solve an unrelated issue I was forced to also upgrade it to Mojave. I haven't done extensive testing on it, but I don't appear to have the crashing issue on that Macbook. Both are running the same MacOS updates. FWIW, both have SSD drives and 16 GB RAM. Something is different between the two, but I'm not sure what it could be.
I'm out of ideas. Is this a known issue with a solution or workaround? Mojave has been out for long enough (support for it ends this November) that I would have expected to see more results when searching the webs for this issue. Alas...
Thanks!
*** Update: I also have regular Sound Forge Mac (not Pro) installed, and confirmed the same crashing behavior with that version of the app. I remembered that the non-Pro version had a Sandbox setting in Preferences, so I added the parent folder for the music file I was trying to edit. That didn't make a difference. So the problem doesn't appear to be related to file permissions.
