The first thing to try: make sure your antivirus and firewall is disabled. Some AV software seems to flag Magix installation files as dangerous and block them, most particularly AVG and Avast.
Many thanks Jeff. Both are disabled. I have also listed the software as 'allowed' under Program Control in the Norton Firewall. Still have the same problem I'm afraid. Many thanks, Mike
Where did the installation file come from? Re-download from the Magix Download Center and try again. You will need your log-in info and a valid serial number for the version you wish to download.
The initial downloaded file is an installation manager, which lists the components you wish to install, which are then individually downloaded and installed. The PC must remain connected to the internet throughout the process.
Very many thanks rraud. It is a 'proper' download from Magix. After trying for the second day, for some reason that totally escapes me, the installation program suddenly started to work and, after the required downloads, the program has installed OK. Having used computers for some 30+ years now, I still fail to understand why they sometimes have a 'bad hair day'! All is now well, thank you. May I hope you and Jeff before, have a safe and as joyous a Christmas as one is able to at the present time. Best wishes, Mike
