Sound from the Midi Controller

Hi all,

I use pro tools le, and magix music maker 15 (if necessary, I could also use magix music maker 16), but once I connect my m-audio axiom 61 to the computer or m-audio interface via usb, nothing happens. The midi controller is recognized, all of the equipment has been installed on my computer, but I am not able to generate sound through to my magix music maker software. Will anyone send me usable instructions on how to generate sound from my midi controller?

Instructions for solving the problem using pro tools le or magix music maker would work.

Thanks.

I'm afraid you're a little confused.  A MIDI controller does not make any sound.  It creates MIDI "events" (like note-on, note-off, velocity, etc.) and MIDI program and control changes.  Your MIDI controller is used to "control" hardware and software MIDI instruments.  It's the MIDI instruments that create the sound.

Have you opened the Vita MIDI editor and chosen an instrument to play?

Assuming everything is installed correctly and all software settings are correct, be sure the controller is transmitting on the same channel(s) as the MIDI instrument is set to receive.

Pro Tools is a full DAW...MMM is not.  Pro Tools may be able to record multiple MIDI channels.  I assume MMM can only record one channel at a time, although I don't know that for a fact.

@Procyon- No I'm not confused. I do understand that the midi controller can not generate sound by itself which is why I use either the usb cord or the midi in-midi out cord (from the controller to the mbox). Even if I choose the synthesizer, it won't generate any sound. Example- If i'm using the vita synthesizer (in MMM), while pressing the minor key from the midi controller, I would assume that the sound would play back through the program software, but it's not. Even if I use a midi-interf@ce (connected via midi-in and out) and press a key on the controller, the lights will light up on the midi-interface, but there is no sound. I understand what you're saying though.
