Speech to text

JRH wrote on 11/13/2025, 5:39 PM

I've had Sony Vegas then Magic Movie Studio for many years. I have just upgraded to the 2026 Premium to get speech to text. However: I follow all the instructions, and all I get when I click on "Start analysis" is "No language found". Have tried over and over again and am very frustrated, I have uploaded the video to websites offering video transcription and they immediately start transcribing the speech in real time.... so there's obviously nothing wrong with the video.

Running on Windows 10 laptop

Many thanks for your reply. Yes I am. I do exactly as per your video, but when I click on "start analysis" I just get what you see in my screenshot 😪

Hi

How odd !

Are there loud background noises and/or do the speakers have strong accents/dialects ?

I have tested a video with noisy intermittent drilling in the background and the Text To Speech isolated the speech with no errors.

No, none of that. Do I have to buy extra credits or something? I saw an article suggesting this is what happens if you have no credits, but I've not seen anything about that in the instructions. This is the video, just two elderly friends talking...

Sorted. Found out how to buy a voucher. I had no idea that's what you had to do. I don't mind...but would be nice if this was explained instead of just saying NO LANGUAGE FOUND. 🙄

Hi

Thanks for the heads-up - that is not obvious, I had to search for the Hub AI and Stock media and Cloud storage features top-up page.

For other users the top up page is here.

Indeed, not obvious at all! I only found out because I eventually found it mentioned in a review of the software. You'd think they'd include a few free minutes with the download to get you started and tell you you need to buy more and provide a link.

Hi

. . . . You'd think they'd include a few free minutes with the download to get you started . . .

They do, at the time of posting this comment, it is currently per edition:

  • Plus - 1 hour
  • Premium - 2 hours
  • Premium 365 - 6 hours

Do note that it is very easy to get through these times quickly, just testing.

The Text to speech does offer free previews for testing the voices.

Hi,

You'd think they'd include a few free minutes with the download to get you started and tell you you need to buy more and provide a link.

I don't understand. All 3 versions of VDL2026 have TTS characters and STT time included. The minimum is for VDL Plus, which includes 20,000 characters/year for TTS, and 1 hour/year for STT. You purchased Premium, which gives you 2 hours/year.

When you start up VDL, did you go to the MAGIX Hub tab, log in and click on Profile? If not, do so. Under My Hub benefits, you should see how much time and characters are left, etc. You should have received 2 hours free. What do you see there when you hover over Speech-To-Text?

Also, you can purchase vouchers and get more credits on this page.

Your video is 26 minutes long, so you would quickly use up your 2 hours if you do a few of these. If all you want is a transcript, I suggest that you join MicroSoft Azure where you get 5 hours/month STT, and 0.5 million characters/month TTS. Magix is just using MS Azure for both.

Also, if you happen to have an annual subscription to Microsoft Office, you also get TTS and STT included. You can access this through Word. There is a limit to how long each segment can be; I think that it's 20 minutes. So, you would have to split your 26 minute video into 2 parts. I would even advise that for doing STT in VDL.

Another alternative is to upload your video to YouTube, keep it unlisted, and YouTube will provide a transcript for free that you can download.

Many thanks for these replies. So far I have just succeeded once doing that 26 minutes after paying for a voucher. No free minutes..will have to investigate.

I am now trying to transcribe a sound file on its own...but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. Right clicking on the track offers nothing except undo and delete. Surely I won't have to turn it into a video, export it and reimport it? Thanks folks.

Thanks for all the help. I have now found the codes in the email that came with the download and applied them. 😁
