STORAGE OF FILES

Hi everyone. My laptop's SSD has gone from 500GB to about 80GB and is going to get smaller as I work on my project. I don't understand proxy files and such like, so...
I have a folder on my desktop full of sound FX. Have used a few in this film. Does this need to remain there, or can I move the whole thing to an external drive? In other words, do the FX I use get duplicated and store elsewhere?
Any advice appreciated.

@MCK

Yes you can move that folder but if your current MEP project is using any of its contents it will throw up an error message saying it cannot find that file or files. The error message should ask you to point it to where the file now is. Do so and the app will save the new location when you next save the project.
