Straighten horizon not keyframable?

tpolakov wrote on 6/8/2020, 4:22 PM

Hi everyone,

looks like the "Straighten horizon" setting in the Rotation/Mirror effect section cannot be animated - does not accept keyframes
Bug/feature?

Thanks

Tomas

Hi

. . . ."Straighten horizon" s. . . effect section cannot be animated. . . Bug/feature? . . .

It is neither a bug or feature, it is a result of how the effect works - it is a combination or Rotation, Size & Position and Zoom, as with some other combination effects, it cannot be keyframed in one step.

Use the Rotation dial ( Z axis - third dial control) to level the horizon, keyframing the rotation and then use Size & Position to set an appropriate Zoom level to ensure no black borders appear - the Zoom control can also be keyframed if required.

Thanks John... I know it can be done this way, but...
My primary use case for Magix is the simplicity and (mostly) intuitiveness of operation. If things like this worked as one would expect (that it translates the simple straighten number to rotation and zoom and computes the transition), it would give Magix at least some edge over competition.
Right now, all I can see is Vegas being more responsive and much faster to render, Premiere Elements having built in Noise reduction and Davinci Resolve being free for the most part. What justifies Magix's existence, let alone the price tag?
I have to admit the new version appears to be more responsive in general operation (maybe because of the added support of my AMD GPU for timeline operations). But I am not sure if this is enough for me to keep using it.
Sorry for the rant - it was in no way aimed towards you...

BTW - I just upgraded (within the one year of upgrade service), but I cannot see the realtime stabilization (the Mercalli RT section in effects) as shown on the new features video. Does anyone happen to know if this has to be separately downloaded or something like that?

@tpolakov

I agree that the ability to KF the straighten horizon being simply keyframed would be a nice feature as I usually require it because I often lose level during hand held pans.

According to @emmrecs mercalli V5 is a separate additional program / plugin which you will only get after a new paid upgrade.
