Strange ! Video Pro x installed but no video shows

1940 wrote on 11/18/2017, 4:46 PM

Hi,

In my eternal testing for why the overlay won't play on my T7500 box, I have installed VPX onto another Win 10 box I have. It is running Win 10x64 1709

When I insert a clip into the timeline I only see the audio no video shows. Never seen this before with any program.

Video does however play in Edge, Windows Media Player, Films and TV, Photos.

Any ideas please?

Hi Oz,

Did you update to the latest patch? If not, then do so.

If you did, go into the Settings, Display options tab, and change Video mode to Compatibility mode. Does that help? I had this problem through two patches until the present one.

Hi

. . . . In my eternal testing for why the overlay won't play on my T7500 box . . . .

Would this be a Dell Precision T7500 with a 6 core Intel Xeon processor?

If so which graphics card do you fitted ?

Yes the overlay problem one is the T7500 It has a Nvidia Quadro FX5800 Display.
Nvidia driver 14th Nov 2016 version 21.21.13.4201

The overlay works, but not in the 2nd latest or latest patch.

The box not showing any video at all is a custom box and has for some strange reason, has now decided to show video, so it seems this is okay. For the moment anyway.

Thanks browj2 however that didn't make any dif for me. I do have the latest .195 version on the T7500 where the overlay prob is.

I am updating on the other box so we'll see if that helps there.

What is the specification for the second box, ie processor make/model, graphics card etc, and is the overlay working OK on it?

Hi

. . . . How do you think this would fare with VPX . . .

IMHO - not very well for the following reasons:

  • Quad Core i7 Gen 3

The processor is too old to take advantage of Hardware Acceleration (HWA) you need, as a minimum, an Intel i5 4th gen processor with HD4600 integrated GPU.

  • The 256GB SSD drive is too small:-

All rendering is written to the OS temp folder which is normally on the C drive, IMO it is better to have a 1 or 2TB hard drive for the OS and programs, the SSD does not offer a significant advantage other than a faster start up of Windows and the programs, once running the speed of rendering depends on the HWA and the complexity of the video on the timeline.

  • Radeon HD 6450 Graphics

An additional graphics card is not necessary when using an appropriate Intel i5 or i7 gen 4 or later processor, and, although, this card may support QuickSync its performance could be disappointing on Windows 10.

VPX is designed and optimized to use a modern Intel processor and integrated GPU.

So, i5,7 4th gen onwards..

Yes would use 1TB O/S disk as in other boxes.

Oh dear.. back to the drawing board..

Many thanks

The other box is Pent dual Core E5400 2.7GHz 4GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 4800

Maybe also no good news :-)

Hi

. . . . Pent dual Core E5400 2.7GHz 4GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 4800 . . . .Maybe also no good news :-) . . . .

Definitely not good news, this is well below the absolute minimum spec PC for VPX - dual core processor, no integrated graphics, lower RAM count and lower spec graphics graphics card.

. . . . Looks like upgrading time.. . . .

I would recommend:

  • Intel i5 or i7 gen 5 or later processor with integrated GPU
  • 16Gb of RAM minimum
  • 2 hard drives (1 + 2 TB for OS and data files)
  • avoid a PC designed for gaming
  • avoid NVidia graphics cards - no HWA support
  • AMD processors - no integrated GPU, require graphics card which can support HWA
