Just after I posted here the computer through a massive wobbly and now refuses do anything except boot then hang. Some investigation is required I think.

I knew I should have stayed with my old system.

After much cursing I had to go out and so I told the computer, using a volley of well chosen Anglo Saxon words, to sort itself out by the time I got back.

Strangely, when I got back the computer behaved impeccably, and even MEP loaded without asking to be activated.

I find this rather disturbing but ultimately satisfying.

ps - I assume a system restore has happened in my absence because the Intel driver has returned to it's original version (30.0.101.1273 dated 14/01/2022) not the latest version i installed yesterday evening (30.0.101.1960 dated 10/05/2022), so whatever happened to MEPs configuration today causing the activation problem has been put right

That sounds like there could have been an issue with a Windows update that has since been rolled back.

Greetings John, I concur.however this does throw up the possible future problem of Windows trying to install the same uodate again.

Still, I'll worry about that if and when it happens. If Microsoft pull their finger out I might even have Windows 11 before then.

I am on Windows 11 on my PC, it is better than Win 10, starts up and logs in quicker, about 35 secs from powerup to logged in on my system (HDD drives), Win 10 nearly doubled this. Programs also open quicker.

I like the new cleaner layouts for menus etc, however I did remove or disable all the extra junkware that I do not use.

Minor gripes are the extra click for getting to all right click options in File Explorer, and some Windows settings have moved.

If not enabled you do need the Intel Trusted Execution Technology in the processor turned on in the BIOS- no TMP module necessary it is already 'built in' to the processor

For some reason today MEP2022 has started asking for my reistration number to activate the program before use. It accepts it OK but forgets it on closing.

I have a copy of VPX7 on my computer and it has done this every time I open it for years. Not sure why and I thought I saw a comment by JohnEB recently where he stated a possible solution...?

....this does throw up the possible future problem of Windows trying to install the same (driver) update again.

This has also happened to me in the past where WinUpdate has installed an older Intel graphics driver after I had updated from Intel's site....even though I thought Windoze was never supposed to install an older driver over a newer version, at least until you manually remove the newer.

There is a setting in Win10 Settings section where you can deactivate auto update of all drivers.

It is, however in the BIOS,  Intel Trusted Execution Technology may not be its name - On my MSI motherboard it appears as shown below

I should also have mentioned that it has to be TPM 2.0 compatible - TPM 1.2 is not.

Jeff - I'm confused now. If the program does a licence check when the program is opened how can it be used offline? It's by the by now though. The whole computer was at fault.

John - I can't see anything like that in my BIOS however all seems to be well at the moment so I don't really want to mess just in case.

Peter - I have Windows 10 Home and all that I can do is delay any updates for up to 30 days. Unless I've missed something of course.

Your motherboard is Windows 11 compliant according to the Gigabyte website but I found this update.

Could that have anything to do with the problem?

Unfortunately my motherboard is only the humble Elite version not the Xtreme version but maybe Gigabyte will add my board to the list. i'll keep an eye out for it

The setting should be there - once in the BIOS you need to be in Advanced Mode (F2), Settings.

The Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT) option should already be enabled

and under the Trusted Computing you should see

You do not need to change any of these settings.

Okay. Righty Ho. I accept the inevitable mocking. I've found the DRM Fix Tool lurking, hidden in the middle of the page. I don't know how I missed that.

In mitigation though, I downloaded the Gigabyte Apps app(?) that informed me of software I needed and the DRM Fix Tool wasn't shown so I didn't know it was available.Mind you, the software I apparently needed doesn't really do anything except look nice as it informs me what I already know.

However, that said I'll try the DRM Fix Tool if the problem I had resurfaces. I hope it doesn't'

Sometimes the things you are looking for are right under your nose, yet you cannot see them - I believe it is called 'Selective attention' and when someone else points to where it/they are you feel a right twit (I think that is one of @AAProds phrases from way back).

BTW most of the 'tools' for you motherboard are IMHO not necessary.
