I may be wrong but I think a font has to be a true type font or an open type font for use in any sort of video or photo editing package as embedded fonts as far as I'm aware are mainly for web based applications where an extra bit of code tells the server which type of font to display in the web browser for a given character.

I was looking at the information on the google site without looking at the files themselves which do appear to be Truetype fonts. I am testing them now.

Try turning off any hardware acceleration, even if you are using an older copy of Movie Edit Pro.

@johnebaker I had dragged and dropped with ttf files into the windows/font directory, I didn't realise there was another way (right click > install) - do I have to do it this way instead? I note the install option isn't in the right click context menu for the files that are already in the font directory.
What's curious is that the font does actually render in MEP2014 during text entry but not when embedded in the video - see below....


@CubeAce Both fonts are TTF and GPU acceleration was off.

Hi.

In the end I tried downloading 10 of the fonts I liked and unzipped the folders and then used the right click 'Install for all users'. Not all of them would work even though they showed up within the text options. HanaleiFill-Regular being one and two of the three versions of Big-shoulders-Stencil-Display said they loaded but did not display. The third one worked.

Loading a different font into each text box eventually led to a lockup of the text box even though the rest of the program was not frozen. I had to click on another text box to unfreeze the titling. This is something I have not experienced before.

Once the project was reloaded after saving it still held on to the changes and exported them.

I only have MEP 2021 and VPX 11

I've tried the following but it still behaves as described above...

• Restart the computer, starting a new project with only 1 text box.
• Installing over the existing Expletus Sans using the right click > install method.
• Deleting Expletus Sans from the windows/font directory then running MEP - interestingly, MEP still shows Expletus Sans as a font option but this time, also only renders with Arial while editing and still embeds with Arial after.
• Reinstalling Expletus Sans via right click > install method after it was deleted from the windows/font directory (as above). It returned to the behaviour of rendering Expletus Sans while editing but embedding with Arial after confirmation of editing.

Once again, I'm using MEP2014 (Win10 64bit) and I have disabled hardware acceleration (I don't have a GPU)...

Officially, no, there is no-one on a day to day basis from Magix that would deem to make comments here.

Your specs are not under-powered to run MEP 2021 but won't be able to use hardware acceleration to its full extent for smooth playback meaning you would likely have to use proxy rendering from time to time.

I do think trying to run MEP 2014 is pushing it a bit. The graphics side of things tend to rely on Direct X and there may be a compatibility issue as Windows 10 continually updates how it operates.

Try the trail period version and see if it helps clear things up.

Hi Kevin.

As far as I can see you are only missing a separate graphics card which is really only needed for smother playback of a project or some graphics processing but could equally be done by the CPU although possibly not as efficiently. As I said earlier some of that can be alleviated by using proxy files.

There may be earlier plugins or effects from earlier versions of MEP that are not supported in the newer version so there may well be problems with earlier projects.

There again within the next generation of electronics 32 bit processing will be dropped by ARM chips altogether so the fate of anything relating to 32 bit processing at that point will not run at all on a 64 bit operating system that runs the newer hardware. If you are concerned with future proofing it would be best to sort it earlier than later.

No. Your CPU kills it. As CubeAce says, you don't have a dedicated GPU but you don't need one. It just speeds things up on the timeline. If you're just doing HD (1920x1080) your current system will be fine. If your timeline gets a bit sticky/jerky when playing your project and it's not tolerable, swap to using proxy files.

I have the same machine I bought in 2011 and have run every version of MEP since then quite happily, up to HD projects. Encoding is slow (I do it overnight) but I can cope with it. Your i7 will do OK.

In any case, give the trial a whirl. Just make sure you don't choose to wipe your current version.

I agree with @AAProds, your computer is fine for MEP 2021.

AFAICS in my tests on what is, and is not, hardware accelerated for preview or export - Titles appear to be done on the CPU only.

would suggest this is may be a Touchscreen laptop is this correct?

If so what is the make/model of the laptop and does it have a Nvidia or AMD graphics as well as the Intel GPU?

I have a Lenovo X1 Yoga G3 which has an Intel UHD Graphics 620.

I just tried MEP2021 - it has no problems embedding the above said fonts into the video. This seems to confirm my initial thoughts that this is a bug in MEP2014 - unfortunately, this probably won't be fixed given its vintage :-( And it isn't obvious to me what features are/are not in a font making it embed/not embed into the video (again, they always render correctly in editing but not when embedded).

The solution would seem to be "just buy MEP2021" BUT it does run slightly jerky on my system and the new chroma key algorithm doesn't seem to properly screen out my green background! Aren't newer versions supposed to be better in all respects? :-(

Hi Kevin.

I wish people would stop talking about software having bugs. MEP 2014 was not written for Windows ten.

Direct X no longer uses 2D rendering and MEP I suspect wasn't written to use 3D rendering.You can't expect developers to keep making a product forward compatible as their main concern is to keep abreast of hardware and operating system changes, I doubt if even the current bugs that are in MEP2021 will be addressed and possibly, (hopefully) dealt with in its next incarnation.

The only other solution is not to update your operating system but use the one it was stable on and written for.

Regarding MEP2021's chromakey: I experimented with all the various chromakey modes as well as tweaking the values within them and wasn't able to get a full and clean transparency as achieved in MEP2014 - if there's other ways around that, I'd love to hear about them (I won't want to assume upon your time so if there's any links to useful articles etc. directly relevant to MEP2021, please shoot them my way - thanks).

Try using colour instead of Green and select a section of the green screen for a sample. This allows for a wider gamut of green to be used.

This is more likely a drivers issue between MEP and the Intel UHD620, which was not around during the development of the program, nor available, the UHD 620 became available in 2018, after the update period of MEP 2014 had expired.

The Chromakey issue has been discussed before and for the green screen effect to work correctly if there is too much blue or red contaminating the green then it will turn grey when Chromakey is applied

If you are using a commercial or a DIY, green screen made from green fabric or paint available for green screen use, blue/red contamination can be caused by mixing different colour temperature light sources ie tungsten (2700K) and LED (3200K or higher), see this comment and this one further down.

@CubeAce re: green screen - I did all of the above with MEP2014 - worked but strangely, not in MEP2021.

@johnebaker interesting that it is a driver issue - can't help that then I guess. I used a commercial green screen and LED panels so colours are pretty pure. Thanks for links, I'll look at them.
