Hi john and welcome to the user to user forums.

How are you applying text? Are you using a template? If so which one?

Thank you for the information you have supplied but often we need a complete breakdown of what is going on to find out what is happening. Screen-grab shots can be helpful as well assuming you know how to do one and post it here. Also a breakdown of the components of your computer please. Processor type and number, etc.

Ray.

Hello Ray, I appreciate the welcome and the help :)

To apply text I am using ctrl+t (the title editor). I then type my text into the title field, in this case 'orange'

The text looks fine in the preview video as do all my title entries.

Then i export the video using ctrl+alt+g

then I go to the advanced tab and select mpeg-4 simple

I have the 'main concept' mpeg4 codec

and here are my display options settings

but after export the video is fine until the title orange is supposed to overlay but all I get is

I have tried restoring default settings

I have tried not using the mpeg4 simple setting

I have tried starting a different project and trying a new title

These produce the same problem.

My computer has

I hope this helps :)

I had used the title editor on other projects and not had this problem.

@John-Ruiz

Any reason why you choose to use the Main Concept codec rather than the Default? Unfortunately, the MC codec, now rather "old", has been known to cause export problems with mp4.

I would repeat the test but select the Default codec.

Hello Jeff,

Thanks for taking an interest in my problem :)

I can get a smaller mpeg4 file size when I use the 'mpeg4 simple' option on the main concept codec.

I selected the default codec, restarted the program, exported again and the obtained the same result, unfortunately.

Hi John.

You seem to have an awful lot of background tasks running looking at your task bar. Have you tried shutting all of them down before exporting?

I'm not sure if any of them is causing some sort of glitch or hogging resources MEP may need.

Have you also tried deleting the title and then saving the project, then shutting down MEP. Rebooting the computer using the restart option to reset windows rather than shutting down and restarting windows that does not do a clean reboot? Then re-open MEP and add the title again and try exporting in case the project itself corrupted?

Rebooting may need the processes in the task bar to be shut down again before opening MEP again.

Ray.

Hi John.

The only other things I can see from your screen shots is Windows is several updates behind and that could mean you do not have the following updates installed either.

Those are now needed for MEP to run fully as well as far as I know. I have always had those files but some people have had to download them recently for whatever reason.

I'm also assuming your graphics processor is also no longer supported by MEP which means everything is being done at the software level, so any bits of operating system could make a difference.

Hi John, Jeff, Ray

. . . . the MC codec, now rather "old", has been known to cause export problems with mp4. . . . .

The particular issue with using the MC codec was incompatibility with hardware acceleration, usually resulting in a 0 Byte file, ie an empty video file.

John - try turning off the Hardware acceleration for export option in the program settings, Import/Export tab and export to mp4 again.

Does the laptop have an AMD or Nvidia graphics card installed - if so which one and are the drivers up to date?

. . . . Windows is several updates behind  . . . .

The Visual C++ redistributables are not part of Windows Update, they are installed by the program that uses them.

If that is the case, what was the recent fuss over those missing about if they were installed with the programs?

As I am made to believe, Visual C++ Redistributable are from Microsoft in your Windows, and they are there for a good reason: each of them serves some purpose related to the proper functioning of your computer.

They are part of installer packages of various apps.

I think Windows provides a service for various apps that rely on them and Windows does update these many Visual C++ Redistributable in 64bit and 32bit.

Visual C++ is a Microsoft language used for testing, editing and debugging by developers.

Someone asked a question on the net, could windows run without Visual C++ Redistributable, and the answer was No.

@johnebaker The Visual C++ redistributables are not part of Windows Update, they are installed by the program that uses them.

I agree. But Windows offers them and provides updates. They are applicable to Windows versions as well.

Hi Stephen.

I understood that but not long ago there was a spate of inquiries in the forums about problems that seemed to happen after a windows update. Whether the update had removed some of theVisual C++ redistributables or not I have no idea. I run Windows 10 Enterprise and did not suffer that problem. The solution for those inquiries seemed to be the downloading of a Visual C++ redistributable package.

I have no idea if this is had been the case in this instance.

I read this in Microsoft forum below:

There does not seem to be an answer to this situation as you described Ray.

Hi Ray, Stephen

. . . . there was a spate of inquiries in the forums about problems that seemed to happen after a windows update. Whether the update had removed some of the Visual C++ redistributables or not I have no idea. . . . .

While the Windows Update does not install the redistributables it does provide 'security updates' for them and I believe it was one of these that affected some of the users who were having problems starting the program - re-installing the redistributable fixed the issue.

. . . . Visual C++ is a Microsoft language used for testing, editing and debugging by developers . . . .

- and more.

Visual C++ is part of Visual Studio and is one of the several programming languages for creating (programming) programs that run on Windows. The redistributable is a part of the programs installation package along with custom dll's and executable files and other miscellaneous files a program may need, when the installer package is created using Visual Studio. The redistributable is a library of standard routines, provided by Microsoft, that are used by the program to interact with Windows.

Hi John.

On the next tab on the right (Import / Export) try un-ticking the 'use hardware acceleration if possible' boxes for playback and export boxes. The HD 5500 Intel graphics processor can run on direct X 12 but can only use the feature set up to Direct X 11.1 so there may be a problem Un-ticking the boxes mentioned above should fix that if that is the problem.

If that doesn't work we need to look at the data of the screen recording video files you are using for the projects.

To do that you need to download a copy of MediaInfo and from the net and right clicking a video clip, select the MediaInfo option and copy and paste the information from the 'Text View' to here.

@John-Ruiz

Hi John

Do you have any of the 'all in one codec' packs installed eg K-Lite or similar? If so uninstall it.

Does this issue apply to all titles or just specific ones?

Also try resetting the program to its default settings, File, Settings, Reset . . . . . ., do note this will reset any folder paths etc you had changed.

If those fail, can you create a small project that shows the issue, back it up using File, Backup copy, Copy project and media files into a folder, then create a zip file from the backed up files - if you do not have a Zip (compression) program:

Right-click the folder, select Send to, and then select Compressed (zipped) folder. A new zipped folder with the same name is created in the same location

and upload it to a file sharing site such as Dropbox, WeTransfer etc and post a link to the file for us to test.

Hello Everyone,

Sorry it's been a while but I had to step away from the problem to catch up on other, non-video related, projects. I also hope that no one gets offended but I emailed tech support and... Solution.

long-story-short: My export resolution was messing everything up.

long-story: After uploading a backup of my project file to tech support (as John EB suggested I do here) they could not replicate my problem but they did send me a screen shot of recommended settings and Success!! I then did a step-by-step reversion to my initial 'problematic' settings and discovered that my export resolution of 768x432 was the cause of my problems. When I selected a standard export resolution of 720x480 everything worked beautifully. In this thread I had started a new project with different video files but the problem still existed because I still had the 'bad' resolution size.

I understand how precious time can be so I REALLLY appreciate the time everyone here took to try and help with the problem I was having.

I sincerely Thank You.

John
