Track Selection (For synchronized tracks)

Hi, I have filmed some event with 3 cameras located apart (lets say someone running)

I wanted to load the 3 tracks, and select which one of them to show on different time. That way, just syncing the start of the 3 videos, you could have different shoots, synced up.

This could also be used for an easy music-video clip, science experiments, etc.

Like this:

any advice?

thanks!

Hi.

Please use the built-in Help files to look for "multicam". Also, see this tutorial and this page.

Here is a screen grab from a school production that I am working on at the moment. This is typical of the way that I work with all theatre productions, schools, weddings etc.

In this instance I was using 3 cameras at the back of the school and a Zoom H1 voice recorder on the stage. I never use the multi camera editing facility as I find it does not give enough precise control without having to make constant corrections.

Tracks 1-6 in the example are taken up with the three cameras and their audio tracks. All cameras were shot in 4K. Track 7 is the Zoom voice recorder, which is locked and set to solo so that I can't accidentally cut or delete it. All three video cameras are synched to track 7 using the auto sync function. Track 1 is then set to solo so that I can use it as the main video track along with track 7 for the audio. The timeline is set to single track editing so that when I make a cut, all tracks stay in the same position relative to each other. I can then select any video track by setting it to solo, as the solo always shows the lowest track by priority in the main monitor screen. I then split the track that I want to drop in to track 1 at the start and end points of the required section, using the scissors tool, which cuts across all unlocked tracks I then delete the appropriate cut from track 1 and drag up the replacement clip from my selected one. If cross fades are required, simply drag the ends of either the dropped in or track one clip to overlap.

I find that this method is quick and efficient and doesn't need the extra master track that multicam does.

@SullyPanda76us

Just to explain one thing: @RogerGunkel is using Video Pro X, which includes 2 video display screens, as in his screenshot. MEP, which I believe you have, does not offer this facility.

Hi Jeff,

You are of course correct, although the same technique should work using a single screen.

Hi Roger!

Thanks for the tip.

1) In your image, I don't see that tracks are cut out. So the Screenshot is previous to your work?

2) With this method, I assume is not intended to afterward modify the scenes, does it?

You have mentioned quite a good issue.... I really don't know what do I have.... is not Video Pro X, neither Movie Edit Pro...

It's "Video Deluxe Pro".... And really can't find the "multicam" button.... Perhaps I have an amateur oriented program?

Hi

See your topic way back here. Unless you have upgraded you are still on, and the image you posted looks like, VDL (MEP) 2017, however the version number under Help, About will tell which version and patch level you are at.

VDL/MEP does not have the source/system pair of preview monitors, only the one you see.

Correction: Multicam option should be under Edit on the top menu and can be used with upt o 4 cameras.

Personally I use the same technique as Roger Gunkel..

Ok here is a quick video I made for you showing me synching the video tracks audio to the track 7 audio track which is cut to where I want the video to start, then locked. I also solo the audio track so I can make sure everything stays in sync or corrected if necessary. I leave track 1 as the master track and decide which of the other tracks I want to take clips from by soloing them individually. Track 1 stays on solo so that I can check progress by turning other solos off apart from the master audio on track 7. I've also shown you how I re trimmed one of the clips where it was dropped in during a zoom, just by dragging the join past the zoom. Crossfades are made by dragging the end of one clip over the other.

As a matter of course, I delete parts of each track that I don't need as I move along the time line, which will also reduce ram memory use on a long production. The full length video of this show was finished today at 85 minutes long. When all the video editing is complete, I unlink the video and audio on tracks 1 and 2 and move the master audio from track 7 to 2. I never unlink audio from video until the end, to allow for any re synching if there is any slippage.
