Transfer track from Magix to Sound Forge not working. 2021 edition

Neil-Wishart wrote on 1/10/2021, 6:15 PM

I've just purchased the latest magix music and when I create a track, when I go to export to external program - in my case sound forge which came with my purchase, sound forge opens but the track doesn't transfer. I've re installed both programs several times but it still won't work. How do I get this function to work?

Also, I now have four different magix music versions installed. How do I delete them without deleting the sound pools that came with them?

Hi Neil.
I too have encountered the same problem: if I record audio in Music Maker and with a right click on it I try to open it with Sound Forge 12, once changes have been made with this program the same are not saved inside Music Maker.
I am still investigating how to fix the problem.
For now I can tell you that external editing works very well with Magix's Music Editor which I found included in the Video Deluxe 2021 program and which is also available as addons in the Music Maker store.

Thank you for responding. It's such a shame that the money I have spent hasn't been worthwhile. I've used Magix for a long time but I always seem disappointed with the program issues I encounter.

Do you know how do delete older versions without deleting soundpools?

Hi

. . . . is also available as addons in the Music Maker store . . . .

Music Editor should already be installed with Music Maker Plus and Premium (not sure about Free), however to use it as the editor instead of Sound Forge you need to change the Program settings, Folders, Audio Editor option to the Music Editor executable - on my system it is set as shown below

Thanks johnebaker for the information.
I was not aware that the Music Editor was also included with Music Maker Premium.
In the Store page of my Music Maker Premium 2021, for example, he presents it to me as addons to be purchased separately (I have the Italian version of the program and it costs € 9.99).

Maybe they are two different programs ...?

@MauX-65

Hi

I have several Magix programs installed and everyone has Music Editor in its own folder within each of the individual programs installation folders

Check the installation path of Music Maker (it may be the same as in my image above) to see if Music Editor is there.

Hi johnebaker,
I looked in my pc in the Music Maker Directory.
I show you in the screenshot that I don't have Music Studio installed in my Music Maker directory.
Music studio is only present in directories within my Photostory Deluxe and Video Deluxe Premium programs (both version 2021).
And this would make sense to me as I wrote to you in the previous post, it is offered to me as an additional purchase in the Music Maker Premium 2021 Store.

Hi

Are you using the Free version of Music Maker 2021?

If so that is why it is missing.

Forgive me johnebaker but if you reread my previous posts I clearly specify that I have the Magix Music Maker Premium 2021 version.

MauX-65 wrote on 1/11/2021, 12:47 PM

Sorry johnbaker if I take advantage of your patience but you have given me a doubt: is there perhaps something wrong with the installation of my Music Maker?
I'll post the the screenshot of my version of Music Maker.
It would seem to be all right.

Hi

. . .  I clearly specify that I have the Magix Music Maker Premium 2021 version. . . .

So you did, my apologies.

This is puzzling - from what I can see checking your last image against what is installed on my PC, it appears that you have installed all the Extra Content, however the Music Editor is not there when it should be, and as you have commented earlier it is offered to you as an additional purchase.

Try logging out of the Store, restart MMM 2021 and log back into the Store to see if the Music Editor in the Store changes to be ready for download.

No problem johnebaker you don't need to apologize!
I did exactly what you told me and as you can see from the screenshot Music Editor is still an addons to buy separately.
All the packages contained in the Magix Music Maker Premium Christmas offer are regularly installed and available within the program from the instruments I chose at the time of purchase to the soundpools, effects and all the functions included in Premium.

To return to the topic of the op, I found that Sound Forge works as an external editor: it is actually the image of the waveform that is not updated in the Music Maker arrangement.
I tried to record my voice, edit it in Sound Forge and then listen to the result again in Music Maker: the changes can be heard but the wave shape remains the same as when the file was recorded.
I don't know if this depends on my system or is it a bug of the program that needs to be fixed ...

@MauX-65

Hi

Thanks for the update on the Music Editor issue - I would suggest you raise a contact Magix at infoservice@magix.net to ask it Music Editor was included in the package you bought.

To the OP's question, I did try using Audio Studio 12 and on return to Music Maker the loop was trying to be updated, however I got the message that it was in use by another program and it would not update.

Can you detail the steps you took to get it to work.

Hi johnebaker, I will follow your advice even if, however, I already have the Music Editor program included in the other Magix software that I have installed on my pc.

As for the use of Sound Forge, what you described happens to me too if I try to open the same file for the second time with the audio editor.
In detail: I record a vocal part, edit it in Sound Forge, save the file and close Sound Forge and as I described in the previous message, I can hear the changes but they are not seen in the waveform.
If I try to open the same file again with Sound Forge, I get the message you described that the file is already in use in another program and Music Maker sometimes crashes and I have to close it with the Task Manager.

browj2 wrote on 1/12/2021, 11:42 AM

@MauX-65 @johnebaker

Music Maker creates a waveform file with the extension H0; SFAS uses something else.

With MMM2021 and SFAS13 set as the external editor, I got the message that the file was in use. However, SFAS12 opened my recording from MMM fine, I edited the file, exited and saved and the recording was updated in MMM but not the waveform display. This is because SFAS12 updates (replaces) the wave file with the new version but does not replace the H0 file containing the waveform.

I noticed that there is a feature in SFAS12 to update the waveform. I don't think that this exists in MMM. Delete the H0 file and restart the project and MMM will create a new H0 file with the correct waveform.

As for Music Editor 3, @MauX-65, when you activated the Serial Number for Premium2021, Music Editor should have shown up under Downloads. Did you purchase and activate Premium2021?

You can check your activations under Help, Music Maker Store, Activated content, if you have updated to MMM version 29.0.5.29. Here are mine:

@johnebaker

In SFAS13 when opening the file and getting the error, click on Details. Doing this from MEP gives the following error: "The file B:\Documents\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Plus\Exports\Test MEP with SFAS130.HDP could not be opened." It's trying to open the HDP file, not the WAV.

Hi brownJ2 and thank you,
As I posted earlier, my version of Magix Music Maker is Premium 2021.
Purchased in Christmas 2020 and installed from scratch, it is not an upgrade from an older version.
The version is the latest available.
I'll post the screenshot as you asked me.

As for the use of Sound Forge 12 (included in the Premium version of Magix Music Maker) as an external editor I will try to put into practice the advice you have show me and I will update you accordingly.

MauX-65 wrote on 1/12/2021, 12:24 PM

Ok, i've tried right now what you describe and deleting the H0 file and re-opening the same project seems to work...
