Trying to get Magix Music Maker 12 Deluxe running

Hello everyone, back in 2007 i purchased my first post-Audacity "DAW", it was Magix Music Maker 12 Deluxe, i spent years making music on this before switching to Studio One sometime around 2012, i still have my original disk, as well as all my project files and such from back in the day, however, i seem to be unable to get it to run on anything.
I've tried installing it on a VM on my Mac to no avail, and a VM on my PC has the same issue as running it on my Windows 10 PC without a VM, it seems to open, but i cannot use it as its constantly asking me for the installation disk.
i installed it with a usb external disk drive, which my computer recognizes as a drive, but it simply will not recognize the disk when i boot it up.
is anyone aware of any way at all to get this running? it would mean the world to me.

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Unfortunately, I think MM12 Deluxe is simply too old to run on any recent version of Windows, sorry.

However, as an owner of a version of MM you should be eligible to update to the latest version for the Upgrade price, rather than the (already low) Full price.

I realise this may not be what you want to hear but there have been many changes to Windows in the 18 years since you bought the software, changes which render software of that age regrettably redundant.

@james-b8987 Try installing it on a 32 bit Windows operating system. I'm pretty sure the disc copy protection isn't compatible with 64 bit operating systems.

I think it should work if you install it on VMware with Windows XP or Vista. VMware can access the disc drive and the copy protection should unlock. Maybe it will even work with a 32 bit Windows 10 virtual machine, just make sure to not install the program under the Program Files directory. Better install it directly under C: or in the Users directory.

ah ok! i have tried it with a 64 bit virtual machine, i think that may have been my problem !

Edit: nope, just checked, was trying it on 2 bit windows on Oracle Virtualbox. when i google VMware i dont see what exactly i would need from them? which of their products specifically?

Update: i have managed to get MMM12 Silver ( https://archive.org/details/MMM_12_Silver ) running on windows 10, its close to the exact same functionality as MMM12 Deluxe! i can get *most* of my old project files working, but it looks like im missing a lot of extra files that have been scattered to the winds :/
the one thing it doesn't seem to be able to do is use the Vita plugin... this is confusing to me and its breaking a lot of my projects, if anyone has any suggestions let me know, otherwise i am gonna keep trying to get MMM12 Deluxe working

@james-b8987 Try VMware Workstation from here: https://www.vmware.com/products/desktop-hypervisor/workstation-and-fusion

I have an older installer for VMware Player and it runs some old Magix softwares okay, so you can at least open and export old projects. I think it should also work with VMware Workstation..VMware Player was discontinued because Workstation became free for private use.

I don't remember getting the old copy protection working on VirtualBox, but that was many years ago. The programs always asked for the CD. VMware simply read the CD and it worked, so I never tried again with VirtualBox after this.

the one thing it doesn't seem to be able to do is use the Vita plugin...

This was later replaced by Vita 2 with additional instruments. Vita 2 is still available in modern Music Maker. But a lot of older instruments like Robota, Beatbox, Silver/Copper Synth, Loop Designer etc. are no longer included.
