trying to record from guitar

im trying to record guitar over a backing track in music maker rock edition 4. im using windows 8 and a jack lead with usb connector as my interface. i can record fine from the computers mic but no sound or any input from the guitar??

Only one input can be chosen as the recording input device in Windows/MMM. The computer mic must be currently selected as the recording input device. You will have to change it to your guitar's USB connection.

im very new to magix. im not too good with the technical side of recording either. sorry but how do you change inputs?

worked it out but cant hear sound through headphones. only when i take out the usb

In the record window where you select the souce of the recording do you have the Playback while recording option checked?
