Trying to trace a route along a map of the Yangtze River

FF22 wrote on 4/13/2020, 9:49 AM

I can't seem to get a smooth flow while trying to trace a route along a map of the Yangtze River. As you can see, it zooms too fast at the beginning. Then pans too fast for a while before slowing to a reasonable rate. Then it holds too long at the end, at the Three Gorges Dam location. I've played but I must be missing a basic skill or hand/eye coordination trying to move the keyframe marks or space them appropriately.

I've included a copy of the map jpg and I've included in it, Red Dots to approximate the movement (from left to right). The dots don't need to be followed precisely - they were just intended to kind of show the movement and direction when you view my map. The Red Dots are not in the map I use for the Pan.

I just would like a nice smooth pan. Oh, yes, I have the Image's object length about 28 seconds.

Any wisdom would help. I've looked at a few tutorials but seem to be THICK!

Hi,

You're going to need to increase the duration and then adjust the keyframes. Your KF's are too close together where the change is too quick.

If you want to trace a route, why don't you try Travel Maps (Edit, Wizards, Travel Route Animation)?

I will lengthen and spread. I obviously don't want the segment too long but will tweak.

I gave the Travel Maps a try the other night and did not have much better success. It just might be me. Maybe I will try again.

I believe that I got it smoother.

Now a remotely related question. I realize the the map-jpg I'm using is in the wrong folder and not with anything related to the project. I've copied it to my China Map folder. But I don't want to have to set up the keyframe marks again (although, I guess it could be good practice). Any way to redirect Magix or my project to the new location within the project itself without losing those keyframe marks. Or do I close the project delete the images in the wrong folder, get prompted for a new location and point there. But how about while directly in the open project? Probably not a major issue. Thanks.

Hi

. . . . do I close the project delete the images in the wrong folder, get prompted for a new location and point there . . . .

That is one way, the other is to:

  1. change the name slightly of the correctly located file
  2. copy all the effects from the current jpg
  3. add the new named version to the project
  4. paste the effects on to it
  5. check it works as expected
  6. delete the old jpg moving the new one into the correct position.
