I have Movie Edit Pro Premium (had). I was forced to do an update for it, at the very end of it installing I got an error and then the program effectively uninstalled the entire thing! I tried to erase all files, folders, etc for the program to try to do a clean re-install. Now I get the error messages:

"Could not access network location {WIX_DIR_COMMON_DOCUMENTS}MAGIX_MxCloudSync\"

"Could not access network location {WIX_DIR_COMMON_DOCUMENTS}MAGIX_Travel Maps\"

"Failed to set security descriptor on object C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium\, system error:-2147024891"

and all attempts to install fail... what do I do??

@Matthew-Perlowski

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . I was forced to do an update for it . . . .

Which version of Movie Edit Pro (MEP) did you have and which version did you update to?

The updater asks you if you want to install the update there are 2 choices: Update now or Update later which did you click?

. . . . at the very end of it installing I got an error and then the program effectively uninstalled the entire thing . . . .

What was the error message?

If this was a normal patch for the version you had, the update installer should have rolled you back to that version.

. . . .  I tried to erase all files, folders, etc for the program to try to do a clean re-install. Now I get the error messages. . . .

Did you try to run MEP before erasing files and folders?

I have MEP Premium 2020 (i don't know v# specifically). I tried to "update later", but it updated anyway. I don't know specific error other than it "cant find the access" or something (sorry, i just don't remember). yes, i did try to run MEP and it said it wasn't installed (?). That's why i tried to uninstall, erase all the files (as it says in the forums) and then reinstall. now I get:

"Could not access network location {WIX_DIR_COMMON_DOCUMENTS}MAGIX_MxCloudSync\"

"Could not access network location {WIX_DIR_COMMON_DOCUMENTS}MAGIX_Travel Maps\"

"Failed to set security descriptor on object C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium\, system error:-2147024891"

I opened up a tech support ticket and they were able to steer me correct:

Thank you for your message. This particular error message during the installation process is caused by the "controlled folder access" feature in Windows Defender. By default, this feature is turned off. However, if you chose to enable it at one point in time, it could be causing this conflict with our installer. In order to turn it back off, please proceed as follows:
Open the Windows Defender Security Center by clicking the shield icon in the task bar or searching the start menu for "Defender". Click the "Virus & threat protection" tile (or the shield icon on the left menu bar) and then click "Ransomware protection". Set the switch for "Controlled folder access" to "Off".
Once this is done, please perform the MAGIX program installation again. If you wanted to turn the protective feature discussed above back on after the successful installation, this should not be a problem.

worked like a charm!
