@John-Angel

Hi Johnny and welcome to the user to user forums.

Short answer is yes with a few caveats

1: Personally I would lay off of getting VPX13 for a while longer while the bugs from the new version are ironed out. Read the topics regarding the release of VPX 13 at the top of the forum posts before deciding.

2: Any MEP project opened in VPX (any version) and worked on should be given another project name upon closing and used in future with VPX as projects are often then not backwards compatible with Movie Edit Pro if you wish to go back to the project within MEP.

3: At present, because of the numerous bugs still being worked on by the developers, current MEP projects that should open OK may not depending on what effects were added.

I'm still using VPX 11 and everything works Hunky Dorie, so eventually it should in VPX 13, which is when I may consider upgrading.

At present people who have upgraded to VPX 13 have the option to roll back to VPX 12 but I'm not sure if new purchasers would have the same option to have a stable working program.

Also check the specs page of VPX 13 to ensure your hardware is more than all the basic requirements to ensure a smooth user experience.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

really appreciate your time in getting back to me.

Yes, those points you made were also what was going through my mind too.

Thanks for clarifying.

PS you say you are using VPX 11, would you say that the features in there is worth moving from MEP? (Assuming I can purchase VPX 11)

@John-Angel

Hi Johnny.

All I can say is my experience on my system that has an Intel i9900K with 630 graphics chip as well an an nvidia 1650 Super so bear that in mind if you have different specs.

It runs smoother than MEP 2021 and handles more 4K video tracks before slowing down than MEP.

Some of the basic editing tools you get with MEP have more control aspects to them and are more refined hence can't then be retro opened in MEP. Other effects just work and look better within VPX than MEP (any previous version of MEP I've had). A prime example of that would be art filter effects that just works as I expected it to and never really gave satisfactory results within MEP. (For me at least)

Colour grading is more refined as is the application of contrast.

All of my free third party effects were imported automatically from MEP to VPX and I can use them in both which was an unexpected bonus.

Exports have been more reliable as well from older MEP projects that have complex effects added.

In all I'm quite pleased although I still find myself using MEP a lot but if a project looks lackluster or I start having problems with playback due to the load the project is putting on my system, I will then tend to import it into VPX to finish off.

If you do find a copy of VPX 11 and then register it you should also get the invite to upgrade to VXP 13 which you could then do for free when the bugs are finally smoothed out.

Hi Ray,

your comments are very helpful indeed.

Thanks for taking the time to go beyond the basic question.

One thing I like about MEP is that it works quite well on my low spec system (Using the proxies) and I can get small projects done at low cost at the expense of the time to proxy in and render out. But I´m about to get a new system and get rid of that time overhead and then I´ll consider VPX with your tips above.

Much appreciated.
