Video Deluxe 2026 Premium

Hi

I'm fairly new to this and gradually getting to grips with things, but I'm stuck. I would like to add an effect to a video segment to make it appear like a piece of old film. I have am mp4 of the effect I would like to use, so I guess my question is , is it possible to overlay this on top of the segment to get the desired effect (hope this is reasonably clear). If this would not work in this way, how can I do it? Thanks in advance.

@philh77

Yes, you can put your effect MP4 on top of the video segment. Magix uses the bottom up approach: you look at your movie from bottom to top ie looking up.

So, in this case, on the timeline put your effect video below the video segment like this:

Of course, putting a video object on top of another will blank out the lower object. In this example, the effect object will blank out the video segment but I have lowered the video level of the effect file so we can see though it.

Your film-effect MP4 will need to be transparent to be able to see the video segment below.

There are purpose-designed film-effects filters about so if you don't get the desired effect from your effect, look foe those.

I don't know if this will be of any use to you but the program should have an old movie effect in the effects section.

There are also various movie look templates in the Templates section

With a bit of mix and matching, you can do quite a bit with the basic effects.

Hi

. . . . I have am mp4 of the effect I would like to use . . . .

To give more specific advice, we need more information about the effect clip, ie. is this a green screen (Chromakey) effect or a video clip with a transparent Alpha channel?

If not sure, download and install MediaInfo and analyse the effect clip and post the results, see this tutorial on how to set up MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.
