Video editing software not working anymore.

Jasper1 wrote on 2/9/2021, 4:37 AM

Hello, Magix Movie Edit Pro is not working correctly on my computer. It will give an error and the user interface is not how it used to be. I tried to fix it and opened a video but when I hit play the user interface is not how it used to be and I get the error again. I also uninstalled magix and installed it again but it did not help.

I added a link to a screenshot of the software.

There is no need to host images on external sites; simply click the blue circle with the up arrow at the top of the box where you write your post. Once you then navigate to the location of the image it will be uploaded and inserted into your post.

Have you tried going to Window>Window arrangement>Reset Window arrangement (shortcut F9)?

I assume you are still using MEP 2016, is that correct? If so, and you are also running Win 10 (that info. is not on your profile page) it is more than possible that a recent update has rendered the program at least partially unusable. I know @johnebaker has commented that some of the earlier versions he still has installed no longer work properly.

You also say, you uninstalled and reinstalled the program. When you did the uninstall, did you ensure that everything connected with the previous installation was removed? The built-in uninstaller does not do this because, e.g., some folders are created when the app is first run, not when it is installed. Hence, the (un)installer does not know of their existence and so does not remove them! It is more than possible that whatever is causing the problem for you was NOT removed by the uninstall!

We always recommend using the free version of Revo Uninstaller to completely remove all traces of the former installation. BUT, and, because you have other Magix programs installed on your computer, you need to check carefully everything Revo says it is going to remove after its Advanced Scan. It cannot absolutely determine that a specific file or folder or Registry Entry is applicable ONLY to MEP and not to another of your Magix apps.

Hi Jasper.

It would help if you put your system specs and Windows version into your signature instead of your 'About Me' section of your profile. Then it would be accessible on each new inquiry you have on the forums.

Your link is not working to your image. Use the round blue icon with the upward facing arrow in the bar above where you reply to upload an image directly onto the page here.

Assuming you are still running MEP 2016 a lot would depend on what operating system you are using.

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 you may have lost all ability to use any hardware acceleration within the program and would suggest you switch off any hardware acceleration within MEP and use the VideoForWindows option in the program setup playback area and see if that helps.

Update: I uninstalled Magix, went manually into the appdata roaming folder and removed Magix movie edit pro 2016. I reinstalled it again and now it works like it always did before.

I think you might have removed an earlier post that you made before the latest one in this thread? (I received notification of a different reply you had made but it seems to no longer be here!)

I'm not sure whether the problem has been fully resolved? I think it has but you reposted to your last reply a screenshot of the original error message (which seems to imply the original problem is still present)???

Hi Jeff.

I'm not sure what is going on. When I replied, your comment above mine was not visible but is now.

Hi Ray.

If you have a look at the posting times of my original reply and your first post to this thread you will see they are within a couple of minutes of each other.

I think that what happens is, when a member decides to create an answer to any other post, the page he is seeing does not update until after he has actually posted his response. In your case, at the time you wrote your reply, you were viewing the page as it was before I posted - almost certainly we were actually writing our posts at the same time.

(All the above paragraph may be completely wrong, but I have seen a similar situation several times in the past.)

Hi Jeff.

I read your post and agree. I have said many times now on this forum that Windows 10 is now an evolving operating system and the latest update as far as I can see is disabling any form of flash use along with other updates due to it now not being further supported and its vulnerabilities. Eventually I suspect as the tech changes that other parts of various programs and certain drivers will no longer work as requirements to the hardware and peripherals change. So in future it may no longer be the case that programs have a very long operational life as they become incompatible with the operating system and because the nature of a lot of programs now require to connect to the internet to continue working, that once a product has come to the end of its expected life span it will cease to work.

Just this week DJI has said as much about some of its physical products, including camera drones that end their support at the end of the first week of March. They are coming up to being 15 years old but none the less I think shows the shape of things to come in the nearer future.

Hi Jeff, Ray - I have to agree with Ray something hiccupped, I responded (then deleted) a good while after you both, your posts were not there then, by the time I had finished and sent the comment both comments appeared so I deleted mine.

Hi

. . . .No Projekt info in DeleteUndoProjekt file . . . . .

Did the program crash at some point before this error occurred?

A reset of the program usually fixes the issue - there is no need to re-install which is a last resort option.
