Video feed terrible sync issues

jeremiah-traeger wrote on 1/17/2018, 2:23 AM

Hello, happy to be here! I'm completely new to this software, but thanks for any feedback I can get.

I think I have two problems with my visual feed which might be the same problem.

Whenever I trim a segment out of my video and delete it, the video and audio go out of sync. It almost appears that the program deletes the correct amount of audio that I want, but more video than I want. For example, I made a sample video of me clapping to a pattern so that I could have clear synchronization between audio and video. I clapped in a pattern, waited for five seconds, clapped again, waited, and then clapped again. Before I do anything all the audio is in sync at this point. I trimmed and deleted the first "waiting" period, and then when I play from the beginning the audio at the first jump cut goes from the end of my first pattern straight to the beginning of my second clapping pattern, but the video shows me mid-pattern. Once I get to the end of the movie, the video is ending while the audio still has a few seconds to go, so the video loops for a few frames while the audio finishes the last few seconds.

Also, when I set start of range and hit play, the video never corresponds to the point of the movie that I want, even if the audio does. The only way they will sync is if I set the range at the very beginning of the movie.

I have tried "Create new (frame) table" right after importing my file into the timeline as per other threads in this forum for people with similar problems. However, this appears to do nothing.

Thanks for any help.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Please read this topic and put the following information in your profile signature so we do not have to ask for it:

  • Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset make/model, audio card or chipset make/model, RAM,  hard drive configuration and sizes?

  • Windows version and is it up to date?  Press and hold down the Windows key and the R key - in the dialog that opens type in winver and press enter.

  • Software full name and version number - as found under Help, About . . .

Also when posting please include the following where applicable:

  • Audio file formats being imported

  • Export format and settings used

  • MediaInfo data on video - see below

. . . . "Create new (frame) table" right after importing my file into the timeline . . . .

This only works for mpg files and should not be done on mp4 and AVCHD video files.

What was the recording source of the video file?

Please use MediaInfo to analyse the video clip causing the issue and post the results from the Text view in MediaInfo.

Alright, sorry about the signature info, I have updated that.

I used OBS studio (20.1.3) to record an MP4. I haven't exported any projects from Movie Edit pro so far due to this issue.

Hi

Thanks for the info and putting your computer spec in your signature.

The problem is cause by this bit of information about the video file

Width                                    : 1 920 pixels
Height                                   : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
Frame rate mode                          : Variable

You need to record with OBS set to a constant frame rate then the audio will sync correctly in MEP.

If this causes issues with your computer, which it may due to its CPU being somewhat older, then consider using a video converter to change the recorded video to constant framerate.
