video lag

when i import video mp4 into movie edit pro it jumps skips and it lags on playback but if i play it through windows media player its perfect.i bought movie edit pro so i can produce video for my work.up to now its causing problems and doesnt do what it says on the box.have i had my pants pulled down when buying this or can this issue be resolved as a matter of something i am doing wrong.

What is your full computer specification and Windows version?

Which version of MEP are you using?

This topic occurs regularly in the forum - using the search box on the right entering the search term jerky playback will give you a lot of information to start with.

HD video requires a lot of processing power in video editors - players such as WMP only have to play the video, unlike editors which have to apply effects, transitions etc in real time when previewing.
