Hi,

Did you try double-clicking on the icon? Starting from the menu?

Try a right-click on the icon and run as Administrator?

Other than that, you didn't provide any information with which to help you.

It works fine on my desktop and laptop (except for the 20 bugs that I raised with Magix).

Just to add: version 16.0.1.242 is now rather "old". The current latest is 16.0.2.232. Clearly, if you cannot open your version then any update is not possible, at the moment.

I wonder whether this is a case for possibly trashing the relevant .ini file? @johnebaker?

One other question: did you buy VPX or merely download and run the Trial version? If it is the latter then you will clearly have exceeded the 30 days that that version runs for. I ask, because the cost of VPX is not inconsiderable but you seem quite unfazed by the possibility of discarding it and going back to Movie Edit Pro.

It could be, however before doing that I would do a restart of the computer - Windows button, Power button, Restart - not a normal shutdown/start - I had a similar issue with my laptop about 2 months ago - there was no sign of a Windows update, however on a full restart Windows started with the typical 'Configuring Windows' screen.

If the program still will not start then the Video_Pro_X.ini file in

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Video_Pro_X_n/

where n= version, should be deleted.

If the program was the trial version then it would bring up the 'Trial version expired dialog'.

I have to ask; are you sure you are looking in the correct folder? Below is a screenshot of that folder on my computer, with the relevant file highlighted:

Do you see any, or preferably, all of the others shown in my screenshot?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something here but can you explain exactly what you mean by high-speed mode?

See this solution although it refers to Photostory it also applies to VPX.

The Appdata folder is a hidden folder - you will need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden folders - check View, Hidden items.

This is safer as it ensure that if user have rearranged the AppData (or User) directories, it will point to correct path location. It will also avoid any possible issues related to the OS language

Totally agree, however altering the Users directory is considered acceptable and the AppData directory is a subdirectory of this. A typical scenario is to put the Users directory to a different disk (ie D:\) than OS (C:\)

The benefit of using %APPDATA% is that we do not need to know the users username, nor do we need to know the disk (or path) of the Users directory. The %LOCALAPPDATA% variable is similar, however points to the Local subdirectory instead of the Roaming.

Other useful directory variables are:
%ProgramData%, %ProgramFiles%, %ProgramFiles(x86)%

I think problem may be because I downloaded to drive D. How do I replace the path?

Do you mean you installed to the C: drive or D: drive?

If installed to the D: drive and it is an internal hard drive , this should not make any difference to the program running.

However, if the D: drive is an external USB drive then you must un-install VPX, clean up any files left behind in these folders before re-installing VPX to the C: drive.

Just as a matter of interest, did you do this in the order you state, i.e. reset Windows first and then uninstall VPX. Whichever you did first, can I strongly recommend you read this tutorial about how to ensure that everything related to the program has actually been removed. Although listed as a guide to problems following an upgrade to Windows 10, the procedure detailed is also wholly applicable to situations like yours, where it is vital to ensure that all previous elements of an installed program are completely removed. If all previously-installed content is NOT removed it is more than possible that the reinstallation will fail or the program will not run.

The files you show in your latest post are those which are installed as "Additional Content". Unfortunately, you do not have the actual installation file for VPX itself!

So, my recommendation would be to NOT delete those files. You will then be able to reinstall all the additional content without having to redownload them. Once you have VPX fully reinstalled, simply click on each of those files, in turn, to reinstall the content.

You will need to redownload the actual installer file for VPX itself; most likely, what you will initially download is the Magix Download Manager which, when run, will proceed to download and install VPX. Then run and install all those additional content files which you already have saved. Then allow VPX to check for Updates. If you have a current subscription to the Update Service your installed version of VPX will be updated to the latest available, currently 16.0.2.232. If you do not have a current subscription to the Update Service you will not be able to update from whichever version of VPX was offered when you originally bought it. IOW, you will revert to the version that you originally installed when you first bought the program. This latter fact is a matter of some concern/anger to some other users!

EDIT: to add, with reference to your concern about having VPX apparently installed before on a drive other than C:\. I have almost ALL the programs on my computer, including a number from Magix, on D:\. They all run without problem, but all do make use of the default Users/AppData folder for storage of certain files. If you have not chosen, as @shgrude wrote, to have this anywhere other than C:\ (my personal preference), then that is where VPX will install those needed "support" files, but NOT the core program if you wish to use D:\ for that.
