Video Pro X updated itself to previous Video Pro X8

discburn wrote on 2/19/2018, 1:01 PM

Today, I upgraded from Video Pro X6 to Video Pro X. The upgrade cost me €149.

Once installed and registered, notification of an update came in. So, I updated. It was about 100 Mb.

On rebooting the program again, a notification of another update came. The size of this update was about 300 Mb. I thought that was strange, to be so large and to come in immediately after the first update, but I updated anyway.

Having updated and starting to reuse the program, I noticed that the whole 'look' was different. Then, an ad came in to upgrade to Video Pro X for €149!

On investigation, the desktop shortcut now points to a folder called '8' in the Video ProX folder. So I think I’ve been downgraded to Video Pro X8.

I immediately tried to system restore, but my PC has now failed to restore to 2 previous dates. So, I’m not sure what's happening.

Advice greatly appreciated!

Hi Seamus,

Getting adverts does not mean that there is an update available, it means that it's an advert. That's all. Check the box at the bottom left and it won't come up again.

What is the version of VPX now? I have 15.0.5.211, which is the latest version. Check under Help, About.

If you don't have .211, then click on Update online to get the latest patch, but I think that you are there.

My shortcut also points to 8, but that is ok.

Yes, the look is different, much better than VPX6.

Make sure that you did the entire installation by getting all of the add-ons under Help, Install extra content. This looks something like:

Make sure that you install and activate the third party software.

No need to do any restore or uninstall.

Thanks John,

Yes, the version I now have is 15.05.211. I had already downloaded the extras. I just have to go after the Mercalli and New Blue plugins to finalize the installation completely.

Yes, that second update was odd. VPX didn't close to allow the update, and all kinds of dialogues were opening!

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. You're a lifesaver!

Glad to hear that you are up and away. There are many things that have changed since VPX6.

Here's an interesting one. Open the parameter screen of a video object (Ctrl+E). You have to screens, General and Video and a button at the upper right to copy the contents in text format to the clipboard. Click on the button and then paste in a Word file. Maybe not useful, maybe so.

Have fun!

Hi John,

Just a quick question...

As I mentioned, I had downloaded and installed the 'extras' - Fades, Design Elements, etc. But now I see them available again as extras, ie not showing as installed. So, I’m downloading these ones (maybe again!) to install. If they are already installed will that be a problem?

Just answering my own question...

The 'extras' I downloaded and installed definitely seem to be later versions (later file numbers) than the previous ones. And VPX removed the previous ones before installing these ones. So, that all looks good!

Hi Seamus,

Make sure that you get Mercalli V4 installed. That is quite important.

Just some interesting 'upgrade installation' info...

I think when I downloaded and installed VPX9, what happened was as follows:

1. VPX8 was installed

2. Then VPX8 was updated (the +100MB Update)

3. Then another update appeared (the +300MB Update). This was VPX9!

I feel this is correct because the first set of 'extras' all have a VPX8 Icon on their exe files, and the second set have a VPX9 Icon on them.

Perhaps if I had been upgrading from a version of VPX later than VPX6 the 9 version would have come in immediately.

Just an academic perusal at this stage!

Or something like that. Since I went through various updates plus the upgrade, I lost track.
