@Greg-Gordon We need much more info. Which directory are you trying to save to? Which file format? How many audio channels? Which version of Sound Forge do you have: Pro or Audio Studio? Can you upload screenshots of the error message and your export settings?

I have Audio Studio v.17

I have tried MP3 and WAV without success

Message says process canceled after 0.2 sec

@Greg-Gordon You can upload screenshots with the arrow icon above the response text box. We likely need to see your project and export settings and of the full error message. Otherwise it's going to be a guessing game.

This is first use of new purchase/installation.

This is a sample.

Within the tool, the save process just hangs.

@Greg-Gordon Looks good so far. Stereo audio with 16 Bit, 44.1 kHz.

In which directory are you trying to save your MP3? What are your MP3 settings? Can you show us also a screenshot of your export dialog?

Was this this a one-time occurrence? Or have you tried record then save multiple times, (after restarting the PC). I assume you have tried both the 'Save' and 'Save as' commands saving to Documents for instance. Try recording again, then copy the timeline audio (Ctrl+A) and Paste to a new file (Ctrl+N) with same sample rate and bit depth) and save or save as that.
You might also try resetting SF. "Reset all preferences and clear cached data" in the File menu.
btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Greg-Gordon.
