VPX and MIDI Support and Import

VPX 15.0.5.211

I just noticed that there is now a comparison table on the Magix.com site for MEP vs VPX at:

https://www.magix.com/ca/video/video-pro-x/product-comparison/#c708592

Under Audio Editing, I see that there is:

"MIDI Support"

Then I looked in the pdf Manual and on page 16 under "Import and export formats," I see:

"Audio: AAC, MIDI, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA"

so I tried importing MID files, TK2 files (from Soundpools, my own MID files exported from MusicMaker, but nothing worked. I get the message:

On page 50 of the manual:

"In principle, any object type can be placed on any of the tracks. Video and image objects can also be combined with MIDI and audio objects within a track. The maximum length of a movie is restricted to six hours."

I don't know how this would work, as an instrument is required to play them. On page 386 of the manual:

"MIDI files do not contain the actual sounds like audio files, but only the note control information which can be interpreted during playback by the synthesizer chip on the sound card or an external synthesizer."

Has anyone been able to successfully import MIDI files into VPX?

Thanks,

John CB

Hi John,

After reading your post, I tried importing a midi file into VPX from a collection of hundreds that I have, however no luck. I tried locating the files via the media pool, but VPX didn't register them. I also tried dragging and dropping directly but again no luck.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for taking a look. As much as it would be interesting to be able to import and even create MIDI in VPX, there would need to be access to instruments, a way to assign an instrument to a track, the piano roll to edit the notes, etc. Previewing MIDI live with instruments is memory-intensive and given that previewing video is already taxing and often not ideal, especially with a few effects on the timeline, I don't think having MIDI capability would be that useful. Magix should remove these references to MIDI, IMHO.

What I would like is to have is Share in the menu, like in MEP, to be able to go to MusicMaker or Samplitude from VPX for dubbing. I have asked for this several times in the past, and the only reply that I got was that it is already there. Either I'm blind or Share is not in the menu.

Thanks,

John CB

I can't see any midi implementation of any sort in VPX, so why they say there is I am at a loss to understand. If I'm using MusicMaker, Cubase or Presonus to compose, I just have to export as a .wav or .mp3 file and bring into vpx as a finished song.

Hi

MIDI files were able to be imported into MEP up to and including MX, as you can see in the image below, the feature appears to have been dropped or has been a bug in all versions from 2013 to the current version.

IIRC VPX 4 supported MIDI import, I cannot test due to Windows 10 making it non-functioning.
