[VPX] Stretching video by repeating, instead of speed change

SullyPanda76us wrote on 3/24/2020, 12:23 PM

Hi beautiful people! First of all, I hope everyone is doing fine and in good health!

Perhaps this is easy, but I haven't been able to get how to do it: I need to repeat a video several times.

Imagine you have any video, let's say a "rotating gear" with some short length, let's say 2 sec.

I want to run it over the main video for 10 seconds.

So, instead of copying + paste 5 times, I would want to stretch it over it limit, maintaining 1x speed play.

Thanks a lot.

(i had asked the same last Thursday but thought I hadn't give enough information... I know it's a very difficult time... just feel nostalgic of being the only post without an answer.. love you guys!)

Short answer is no.

There wouldn't be any variation in frames to keep the pace the same. Try just copy and then paste as many times as you need to. Each successive paste will automatically be placed after the last pasted object.

If you need gaps between each clip then add a black JPEG and stretch at the end to the required length. Then use the chain symbol button to join them before the copy and paste procedure.

Hi

. . . . instead of copying + paste 5 times . . . .

An alternative to copy and paste, with no object selected, hold down the Ctrl key and using the mouse drag the required object, this will create a copy, and drop it in the required position repeat for the number of copies required.

Hi,

If the video is actually a video file, then simply select it in the media pool import and press 1 and keep pressing 1 the number of times that you need it imported.

Alternatively, if it is a processed object, then export it as an mxv file and import that by repeatedly pressing 1.

Has some problems (expample, you decide to appply some filter, will have to apply it to the 100 copies), but will solve the problem.

Do you know if there is anywhere to post program new features?

Hi

. . . . Do you know if there is anywhere to post program new features? . . . .

I would ask in the forum first, what you are looking for may already be in the program, as you can see with this topic there are 2 alternative solutions which are quick and easy to do.

. . . . thanks for the workarround . . . .

It is a feature of the program rather than a workaround as is @browj2 method - thanks John - I never used that method.

. . . . Has some problems (expample, you decide to appply some filter, will have to apply it to the 100 copies), but will solve the problem. . . .

There is already a feature to copy effect(s) from one object and insert them in other objects:

  1. select the object with the effects you want to apply to others, press the - (minus key next to 0 top row keyboard), select the effects you want to copy in the dialog that opens and confirm.

  2. select all the objects you want to apply the effects to, this is quicker if they are all on the same track as you can lasso them

  3. Press Shift + - (minus) to insert the effects into all the selected objects.

Thanks for all your incredible help, I close the post. Thanks very much.

@johnebaker, thanks for your incredible help always, anyway, as process designer, I encourage everyone to seek the best user experience (in real world and programs), and never settle with "this can be done with this approach", if, by design, there is a much faster, less-click, intuitive solution.

After all, you can get your medical insurance by taking a bus, changing to next bus, getting to the store, taking a ticket number, waiting, speaking with clearance.... but it's better just to enter web, login, and click, right?
